Hubby and I found this little gem of an eatery whilst out and about on bank holiday Monday. It looks great from the outside and we were welcomed as soon as we stepped in the door.
It has a good number of generously sized tables with ample seating around each making it great for catching up with friends or family! They’re dog-friendly too :)
Their menu is excellent! They offer a good range of options and they all sound fantastic so it was really hard to choose (but we’ve already decided to go back so we’ll try something different next time!).
This time we both chose homemade carrot and coriander soup - a favourite! The soup came hot and generously portioned in a wide-brimmed bowl and a little dish of crunchy croutons! Perfect!
AND the soup was also served with a golden nugget of freshly made warm corn bread and a small dish of proper butter!
It absolutely lived up to expectations! Delicious! And that corn bread - amazing! What a treat!
By this time my tea pot was ready to give up its third and final cup and hubby ordered another Americano - at which point we were asked if we’d like cake… well, it’s Easter, and the home baked cakes and treats all looked amazing so we felt it would be rude to decline…
We chose the last piece of crème egg brownie and shared it between us, it was huge! But oh it was SO good! Nice and gooey but not over sweet, plenty of chocolate chunks in it and half a crème egg on top - with its wondrous filling spilling out over the brownie top…
Prices were good too, very fair for the quality and the portions :)
So my advice is… go here hungry and prepare for a walk afterwards!
We will be back and no doubt we’ll be recommending this great little tea room to friends and family too!
Thank you everyone, you...
Read moreNewish to living in North Yorkshire. Sutton Bank was closed for repairs a couple of weeks ago. On detour I passed through Ampleforth, saw cafe & thought one to visit. The wife loves a cafe so we we visited on Monday. She has recently had an operation on her foot, so I dropped her off outside, whilst I found a place to park the car. The cafe staff noticed she was limping. Opened the door for her and helped her to her seat. Excellent service. The staff are really helpful, whilst in the cafe, I heard them giving out lots of advice on places to visit nearby etc. After we had both sat down, a waitress brought us a menu. Only a coke for the wife & a cheese scone and an Americano for me. The scone was served warm, so the butter melted into it when the scone was cut & buttered. Absolutely delicious. Other tables had sandwiches etc, all served with a bowl of salad. Another lady had the soup, she said it was delicious. We will be returning. It appears it is also the social hub of the village. A fantastic atmosphere. On leaving, again the door was opened for my wife, thoughtful. As we left, we were thanked for our visit. Also told that the cafe is shut on a Tuesday & Wednesday. The garden at the rear would be a great place to sit on a sunny day. A definite little gem of a cafe to be visited again soon. Set in a truly beautiful village, of stone built houses, set just below the Noth York...
Read moreLovely Welcome and the cakes looked really good.
Well situated and has pretty garden with tables outside.
We were rather disappointed by the sandwich snacks although they were so attractively served. My friend had a delicious avocado mix but couldn't say the roll was not too dry which sadly the others found too. The falafel in my roll was stone cold and tasteless and the hummus, as the other main ingredient, appeared to have been given a quick swipe across the bread like spread, and was replaced by cold grated carrot? It was there as a trace so I felt I could not ask them if they'd forgotten it but it was a big disappointment - but very prettily served. I think we must have arrived when the ingredients were running out at the end of a Bank Holiday. I wish them luck and will call again another time...
