Unfortunately, the venue needs serious TLC – it's run-down and tired. When I arrived, it looked closed, and I wasn’t sure I had the right place. The outside could really do with a clean-up; there’s an old double-decker bus out front that looks abandoned, and the kerb appeal just isn’t there – weeds, dirty windows, and rusting railings all add to that tired feel. Even a dead bird on the drive up to the carpark which has been there a while by the looks of it. Inside the bar/restaurant, most lights were off, which again made it feel like the bar area might be closed.|Having what looked like someone’s old lounge sofa and chairs in the corner felt a bit out of place — the worn cream leather didn’t really suit the space and looked quite tired.|I ordered food, which arrived quickly and looked lovely, but the strong smell from the Indian side of the restaurant really dominated the whole venue — especially noticeable during breakfast. It might be worth looking into the extraction system, as the scent was quite overpowering. The food itself wasn’t the tastiest I’ve had, but it was freshly cooked to order.|Access to the bar via the outdoor stairs isn’t the easiest — they’re a bit tricky, so I’d recommend taking extra care. The indoor stairs down to the bar could also use some attention, with loose carpet and low lighting making them feel a little unsafe.|The walk up to the bedrooms at the back revealed broken spindles and a rotten, damaged roof over the path. There’s also an old caravan next door which looks abandoned, though I wasn’t sure if it’s still in use.|On a positive note, I was pleasantly surprised when I entered my room — it smelled fresh, and the bedding looked clean and well presented. The room itself was basic, and the lighting was very dim, which could be improved, but the location was quiet and I had a lovely, peaceful sleep.|That said, the staff were genuinely friendly and welcoming, and the bar was well stocked. With its great location and some investment in appearance, this place could have real potential.|The place is in real need of some time, care, and attention. I’d recommend removing the old vehicles like the bus and caravan and focusing on restoring this charming building to its full potential.|I am sorry to say but I think that the price tag on night’s stay here is extremely high.||Maybe an idea to join in the the planned walks and use the bar as an official starting/ending point, make the experience all about the walks. I would contact the local council to see if there was a way to do a collaboration, fund raising days, community coffee mornings, freshen the bus up and advertise this also for the kids. |Put clear signing at the bottom on the drive ( the one there currently is covered by overgrown hedges ) Light the building up starting with the drive entrance so that people know that...

Read moreIf I could give a minus star review I would. |Firstly the photo of the hotel is sooo outdated it’s not true. |Secondly, we arrived at check in at said time after 2pm. Bar , check in area , was in chaos. Our room , room 12 was occupied by a homeless member of staff. The owner, didn’t know what to do ,so she advised us to come back at 6pm to book in. We said this wasn’t suitable, so she said wait 10 min room would be ready. We waited outside with a drink , tables were busy but when not occupied, food was left on plates and drinks left, swarming with wasps and flies. After 20 min we had a key. |Thirdly, on entering the room there was a smell, of bleech and something ??? |Room looked clean and had everything in that it should , towels, tea coffee etc. |we then went a walk near the river , which cannot te seen from the grounds of the hotel. |Back to the bar, the manager / owners wife apologised about the room but when questioned refused to take any blame referring it back to other members of staff. |Fourthly , the evening meal, was really uneventful, the staff were pleasanter than earlier, but were young girls, 2, who were rushed off their feet|Bedtime, a hot night but a large fan was in room. As the evening got hotter so did the stench in the room. Neither of us slept well as bed was uncomfortable and on closer inspection was dirty .|Bins outside were overflowing, grass needed cutting, outside “chalets “ needed sweeping |Very very dangerous old wooden fence rotten , one good push and you’d be on top of a car.|Lastly breakfast, it was ok , that’s all I can say, staff however appear overworked and unhappy to be there. |GLAD TO LEAVE.|THiS PLACE Is AWFUL|We were staying in chalets at back of hotel as our friend had a dog.
