Recently went to Jennies Kitchen for a spot of lunch. My party of 4 had not been to Jennies Kitchen before, so were looking forward to seeing what was on offer. On arrival we noted some really good COVID signage, making it clear there was a one way system and hand sanitiser in place.
There was a reasonable selection on the menu, but most options were essentially Salad or Sandwiches - not the best for a cold wet day in October. I noticed there was a Lasagne on the special, so opted for that. My wife opted for a panini, my son the same and my mom went for Jacket Potato. We also ordered drinks, so was a bit disappointed when only half our drinks turned up, but it was no big deal as we were getting hungry. There was quite a wait for food, but we were happing chatting and with COVID, it's possible the kitchen was under staffed.
When the food turned up, I was disappointed with mine, there was wan't a lot of Lasagne, but lots of salad. The Lasagne came with boiled potatoes, so was also surprised to get even more potato in my salad as well. The panini's were ok, not much Tuna in the filling, but again lots of salad.
My mom's jacket potato definitely looked the best, and having tried some tasted the best. She went for Coronation Chicken, which again came with salad, but no where near as much as the other meals. I was also surprised that it also came with potato salad. From my perspective, the Lasagne was tasty, there just wasn't much of it - it was more like a child's portion in other establishments.
We decided we needed cake afterwards as most of us were still hungry. The cake selection was good, all freshly baked. My Bakewell cake was excellent, but again slightly disappointed that I had to pay a £1 extra for cream, especially given it was already about £5 for a slice.
My overall experience was ok, would I rush back - No. It was very clean, but I guess it has to be at the moment. It was expensive for what you got, so that definitely would put me off. Maybe the pricing is based on the huge New England style houses that have been built in the area, but for me, definitely too much...

We went here for a Father’s Day breakfast. Arrived shortly after 9.30am. There were only 3 people in there. We arrived and found a table. Ordered. Staff were not sure if they had black pudding. Weren’t sure if they had vegetarian sausages. Ordered 4 x full English and 1 x scrambled eggs on toast. All with white bread except the scrambled. More than 1 hour later we had finished our pots of tea, we’re still waiting for our food and getting impatient. Just over the hour mark, the scrambled eggs arrived in their own. It was another half an hour before any other meals arrived. There were 2 full English breakfasts with the wrong toast. These had been polished off before the final meals arrived. These final meals also had the wrong toast, 1 of the meals was missing its sausage, the other was missing the hash brown. No excuses, no apologies, no offer of free drinks etc. Couldn’t get out of there quick enough which was a shame as the setting was lovely and the alpacas gorgeous. During our massive wait we witnessed more disastrous customer service. The couple who arrived after us ordered tea and toast. They got their tea straight away, but had to wait until we hkad our breakfasts before they got their toast. It was toast. They waited over an hour for toast. The response? “You’ll have to take it up with chef.” Awesome customer service. Well done. Jennie’s Kitchen (they didn’t use the apostrophe - I have to) are lucky enough to attract a lot of cyclists. At 10.50am a small group of ladies arrived and ordered tea and toast. Breakfast was served until 11am. They were refused toast. It’s toast - come on, people. To add insult to injury, the full English breakfast is available all day. This meal includes toast, yet ordering toast separately from the full English could not be accomplished. Ridiculous. Everything that is wrong with UK customer service. Many of the patrons on Sunday will...
Read moreBooked since 23rd February Not Happy 70th Birthday Tea My family and friends arrived for afternoon tea at 2.30, the grounds and garden are lovely and peaceful, you can meet the alpacas and donkeys. However, they was a long delay in our tea arriving, apparently we hadn't told them we were ready for tea. doh! A waitress arrived and asked us if we would like to order drinks which were in addition to our tea order, would she have not noticed that we were all seated and waiting for our afternoon tea. A tray of finger sandwiches, and approximately 8 bite size sausages rolls and tiny scotch eggs, were placed on a side table for us to help ourselves, you could see at a glance that there wasn't enough food for 17 people. A table of 5 didn't have any sandwiches, so we thought another tray of sandwiches would follow but! oh no, we were told some must have taken more than they should have,(really), a member of staff was very rude to one of my guests, putting her hand in front of his face saying whoa! there are cakes and scones to follow - when they hadn't even had a sandwich, at this point we were also told that they had a lot of customers who hadn't booked....and were being catered for before us. Two tables who were waiting for the pots of tea to arrived - they arrived cold, furthermore, there wasn't even refills for us coffee lovers - you would need to purchase at cost. We now believe that we had all the leftover cakes as nothing was consistent. Recommendations: A cake tier per couple. My concerns were: Paid upfront We did not have £15 worth of food each Pots of tea served cold Excessive amount of cakes. Lack of communications. We would like to add that of the sandwiches we did have were very well made and very...
