We went for an family meal a couple of weeks back. Now the location was lovely, interior was great, gardens were well kept. The staff were friendly and very welcoming towards the kids.

Unfortunately the food did not go so well.

The two of us who ordered the ploughmans our meals didn't turn up and things only went down from there. My father complained on our behalf, more than I would have done personally, but certainly not so much as to provoke the staff into providing a revenge meal to others at the table who hadn't complained, but it certainly felt that way.

The plate arrived with just pâté, cheese, some bread and slices of apple and pork crackling. Now of those I have to say it was the worst pâté I'd ever had and and the pork crackling was so hard neither of us could bite through it and just had to give up (in fact I honestly thought I was going to smash my teeth). I wasn't a fan of the cheese either.

We remembered that there was at least supposed to be sausage roll - on bringing this up it was brought over separately and was the best thing we received that day.

We had already returned the menus so we weren't sure what else was missing. On checking online it does appear we were missing two more items.

But honestly, despite not having finished, and even without the complete meal when asked if I had finished I said yes.

It was half a decade since I'd been back in the UK, and probably a full decade since I'd had a ploughmans so I was looking forward to it. Next decade I'm ordering elsewhere :)

Now in fairness the other meals were apparently fine; so maybe it's just that one item on the...

We went for a joint family birthday meal. Lovely venue with nice staff and a great outdoor area for the kids when the weather is a little more appealing. It was a very busy afternoon so service was a little slower than expected which I understand with working in hospitality myself. Our server although I didn’t catch her name was really nice and did what she could for us. The food was lovely. Scallops for starter, trio of fish for mains and crumble for dessert. My only Criticism is that the thick cut chips were dire and really didn’t match the quality of the rest of the food. They were thick soggy and very oily and just tasted like oil, not pleasant! I was expecting a thick cut chip that was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I can say that they looked blanched as opposed to being cooked through properly which tells me that they just sent the food out when it was ready and didn’t have time to cook the chips. I would much rather them have sent all the food out then let us know the chips will be another minute or two to make sure everything was tip top. Let me make clear that this didn’t ruin the experience for us but just left us feeling a little confused as to why the chef would serve such lovely food only to be brought down by the lack of attention to the chips. But overall I’d give 8 and...

Used to come years ago when I lived in the area, was our Xmas tradition and weekly visit… was nice to see an upgrade in decor and the wig wam tent looked ok… was a lot better as a garden… On arrival it took forever to get seen too, 12 staff on the bar all running round with no direction, my Son had to shout to grab someone and even then it was daggers at dawn look! We got a table, we hadn’t reserved and for a Sunday we was impressed… The GF menu was wide for my partner, but when we ordered mains we asked for a few tweaks… like extra cheese or could we pay for some halloumi in on the burger… flat NO and huffs from the waitress as if we had just asked for a bespoke menu…. The starters came and it was bland… the burgers had so much seasoning and the onions rings came in so much Oil I was suprised that the USA wasn’t invading the dish! It just felt really run down the service, the food average… the decor was saving it.. I think the icing on the cake was over hearing the staff talk about a little girl who spilt her orange juice by accident and could they give her a free one… flat no from management due to “wastage costs”…

I don't know where to start. From entering, we were made to feel very welcome. When sat, the menu was explained to us, including what was sold out. I ordered my starter and asked the lovely girl serving what she would recommend out of the 3 I asked. She recommended the lamb, and WHAT A RECOMMENDATION... started arrived, it was lovely, then we weren't waiting long for the main to arrive, the second i saw it, my mouth started to water. Grabbing the bone, it literally pulled out of the shank, clean.. The lamb was tender and amazingly tasty, covered in a thick gravy with a hint of mint. (I'm salivating again just thinking of it.) Then starters were soon to follow, cremé brulè absolutely gorgeous. As a whole, I'm totally looking forward to returning again to try something else. The staff serving us was Kizzy and Charlotte, both an absolute asset to the business. I would not hesitate to recommend the jolly thresher to anyone, intact I have already to many people including some of my own customers.
