We initially returned to "Julies" because we knew it was "dog friendly" but were unaware that this didn't apply to the whole premises. I don't recall seeing any clear signage stating as such, although I may have missed that. There wasn't room at the front so after greeting the waitress at the till who said there was room in the back, we found a table towards the rear where we sat on a previous occasion we'd visited, as it was clean and ready for customers. I couldn't see any menus, so I went to ask. The young woman indicated to get them myself from the shelves, saying nothing about the dog or where we'd sat. We began perusing the menu (mostly brunches, paninis and light bites etc) and someone came out of the kitchen saying telling us to move. No "Hello, I'm terribly sorry." No "I'm sorry, would you mind?" just "You can't sit there. It's too close to the kitchen." No sooner had we started to gather our things to return to the front of the premises, another woman popped her head out and said "You can't sit there!" I replied that yes, we've been "told." (I have absolutely no issue with the health and safety aspect of this,) "You can go outside or upstairs." I honestly thought she was going to finish the sentence after "go" It was cold. I wasn't aware there was an upstairs. I'm not saying my looks played a part in this, but I suspect an older person with normal coloured hair wouldn't have been spoken to in quite the same way. At least I hope not! We were then unceremoniously told how to get upstairs (too steep for our dog who had to be carried) into a room I can only describe as an afterthought. It was a FAR cry from the ground floor and not really what I'd call "customer ready" other than wipe-able tablecloths. It was unheated, and the corner was full of surplus bits and pieces. As soon as we sat down and looked around us and I asked my mum, "Do you feel welcome?" She replied "No, not really." It's rare that I am able to treat my hard-working mum; it wasn't the good time I wanted to give her. I enjoyed the bacon and brie panini, the coleslaw and attitude, not so much. This was my third visit, but I probably won't return. It's worth remembering you never know what kind of day someone is having; so it's best to just...
Read moreHubby and I stopped here after doing my favourite Google search ‘tearoom near me open now’ :)
Easy to find with free on-street parking outside :)
Great little tea room with a good choice of hot and cold drinks and some fantastic looking brownies! (And that’s before we spotted the homemade cakes on the dresser!).
We each had a decaf latte, and I also had a slice of the blueberry and lime loaf while hubby chose the carrot cake (single layer triangle with frosted cream topping / he said it was SO good!)
Plenty of seating with a few tables at the front and more out back. No steps to get in so great for buggies and walking aids, also dog-friendly - one of the regulars was very excited to receive her treat :)
Lovely staff, very chatty :)
Payment accepted by cash or card but cash is preferred - use it or lose it!
What a great little business, very happy to support it :)...
Read moreCalled for a drink and some cake around lunchtime. Probably timed it wrong, but the drinks counter was staffed by clueless confused teenagers who really shouldn't have been put in charge of the order book. There was only one person working in the kitchen who was competent. Took them around 35mins to deliver 2 drinks and a slice of cake. The drinks were OK when they arrived and we'd amused ourselves in the meantime watching the chaos at the drinks counter. Needs some serious staff training, everything...
