Couple of 50 year olds feeling late to the party finding this gem. We all have our favourites for a Sunday carvery, of which we have visited ours time and again amongst others for years. Weâd heard of âThe kitchenâ at quantock lakes for some time and managed to get round to booking a table this week. How pleased we are with our new Favourite. After easily parking in the well maintained grounds and car park we made our way across to the reception where after the shortest wait we were greeted enthusiastically by a member of the team and shown to our lovely table. Being our first visit the process of service was clearly explained and our drinks order was taken almost immediately and drinks served promptly. We waited a short time to be invited up to the carvery station. Wow just wow, a homely atmosphere was felt as we waited in the very short queue, our eyes focusing on the three succulent meat choices being generously carved for the diners in front of us. We had at this point decided between the pair of us that neither of us could manage the huge offering of all three meats of the large plate we had just seen handed out and decided that the standard dish was on its own going to be a challenge and opted for this. We each asked for two meats âpork and turkeyâ both feeling guilty neglecting what could only be described as âthe best looking cooked to perfection sirloin of beefâ we had ever seen. Moving on to veg on offer the choice excelled our expectations. I firstly wasnât expecting to be presented with a choice of help yourself deconstructed pigs in blankets which I eagerly added to my already generous helping of meat offerings. Next I moved onto a creamy and piping hot cauliflower cheese. Taking a small amount as Iâm already considering how I am going to not only fit on my plate but also manage to eat my way through the tasty looking red cabbage, broccoli, peas, beans, chunky carrots, beautiful roasted potatoes, stuffing, and golden brown crispy looking Yorkshire pudding. We added lashings of just the right consistency dark and warm gravy and made our way back to our seats. We had already taken note of the cute and personal condiment pots on our table consisting within the trio of apple sauce, horseradish sauce and cranberry sauce and thought the way this was presented was a lovely personal touch. Condiments served we were both very quiet tucking into our generous amazingly tasty carvery. After a few minutes of processing the fact that everything I was eating was so tasty and moist and cooked to my exact liking I stopped just long enough to ask my wife if this was just me who was experiencing the very best carvery meal I had ever had or (as I was hoping) would she agree? My wife instantly agreed that this was the best we have ever had and also agreed that the service and attention to detail was second to none that we have experienced before. Worth a mention that they were full the whole time we were there and have things organised extremely well to accommodate this. We did notice a sign outside to inform customers that they were fully booked so couldnât accept walk-ins today which we agree is fair enough when you...
Read moreWe have been before upstairs and had a loverly lunch and great service from start to finish which is why we decided to book sunday lunch downstairs as a treat for another day ..would say roast was loverly maybe a little bland but nevertheless good đlittle pricey but if its worth it your pay whatever for food and service can't say any comment about sweet as never got any .we arrived with no queue in front and waited at the door and waited till a young lad came over who asked if we booked ..which we had, he showed us to our table ..older gent came over which we now know is Keith ( name on bill ) he asked about drinks and once ordered said to go up when ready ..when we got up by food he was being a joker as lady had gone off to get other food for filling ..we got our food from the grumpy lady who my daughter said made a joke about something about me as my daughters were having banter with me while waiting..we sat down and finished our roast ..then it went down hill we have never ever felt so uncomfortable and ignored that we felt we had to leave within a hr of arriving !!! left without being asked if we wanted a sweet or another drink .. he clearly only wanted to serve his regular customers and avoided us as if we where a embarrassment and wanted us out đł definitely felt like it he knew we were there waiting all the time as our table was right in front of his exit. He also made a comment to me about why do i always get the feisty ones who give grief..i never once gave him anything to make him say that . Even when we asked to split the bill he was rude about that ..sorry but we would not recommend eating downstairs unless your a regular or you want karen treatment đ¤ will say he knew we were not happy and felt uncomfortable the...
Read moreCame for Motherâs Day (our first visit/upstairs) after hearing first class reviews from people we knew that had attended the valentines event and lunches in general. The food was lovely, the place beautiful but it all felt very rushed and I didnât feel special. My pudding (the mum) didnât arrive and had to be chased. There was no time between clearing the plates and puddings being delivered to sit back and relax. We were unfortunately one family member down on the booking so asked for perhaps extra meat as the meal was prepaid, we got extra Yorkshire puddings only. I ended up giving some of my meat to my husband as he didnât have very much at all, however we could take away the extra dessert in boxes. We were there for an hour. (ÂŁ120 for an hour). Other friends who sat downstairs had a completely different experience, they even came away with a box of âfor mumâ chocolate truffles. They didnât feel rushed in any way. We got no chocolates. I even commented at the table how odd I thought it was that the mums didnât get a little something extra? I came away feeling really sad that my children (who attended the valentines event and raved about it so much) had spent so much money for an event that was super quick and not special. Please note the food in itself and the place is lovely. It just...
