My wife and I booked for Sunday lunch as we had heard that the pub had reopened. The pub itself is very attractive, and the staff very pleasant. There was no menu but the choice was beef, pork or lamb. Nothing vegan or vegetarian, nor offer of small portions. A huge plateful arrived, with eight accompanying vegetables (roast potatoes, mashed potato, broccoli, creamy cabbage, mange touts, beetroot, mashed swede, parsnip puree) + crackling, applesauce, mint sauce, yorkshire pudding and gravy. All looked great and was a pleasure to eat. However, although we never leave food on our plate or vegetables left in a dish (except v. occasionally an excess of chips), this was too much for us and we left some of the vegetables and even a little meat. We noticed other customers also left quite large quantities of food, which is so wasteful. We didn't really have room for pudding but we were offered only sticky toffee pudding or two flavours of icecream. We hadn't asked about prices beforehand but were surprised how expensive our roasts were (£15.95 for pork; £16.95 for lamb). The icecream was a perfectly reasonable £2. We won't go back for Sunday roast as clearly things are not pitched quite right - a roast with a smaller quantity of vegetables perhaps @ £12.95 would be fine for us. And some people (elderly and children) would appreciate the chance to have a smaller plateful altogether. But we will try lunch or an evening meal. It's a lovely spot but before you book do check what you are going to have...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLamorna Wink was our planned stop point after walking the Soul West Coast Path for the day. We had read some pretty scathing reviews and were worried if they would let us in with a dog, served food, or would even be open. Since the negative review or two, the place has changed ownership and I couldn't disagree with the negative reviews more.
The opening times were little strange to me as a city folk, but nothing phoning ahead couldnāt have enlightened me to before arriving. The place is clean, spacious, and full of character. (Great selection of gins too!)
There were only two staff working that day. One chef and one bar staff. Despite the short staff, they were friendly, communicative, and courteous. The dog was allowed, and I donāt think I saw a group enter without at least one dog! We unfortunately did not manage to get to eat. They knew they only had one chef that day due to just having trouble getting staff (The place is fairly remote and we went out of season). Meals were reservation only. They knew how many meals they could cook. So, if you want a meal here plan ahead and book. Ring a few days ahead at least and check tables and opening times. I highly recommend this pub. The pub itself and the surrounding area have a rich history and are stunningly beautiful...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreConsidering it's in the middle of nowhere, it's ok I suppose. There's certainly no competition for miles around so if you go to the Lamorna Cove Hotel, this is it for local eating & entertainment.
The food selection was very limited and what I did order (fish and chips) was ok. It wasn't fantastic, I'd say Whitby has the monopoly on Fish and Chips, but it was acceptable. The desert options were very poor though, with nothing I wanted on offer.
We visited here the first night we arrived and never returned. If there had been any other pace to go around the Lamorna Cove area I would have tried it the second night I was there, but there simply isn't anything around for miles. I think it speaks for itself that despite it being the only place on offer, I didn't return.
Limited food on offer; no real entertainment and a...
