I recently visited the Lansdowne Arms for the first time in a while for lunch with my family, on a Wednesday in March. The pub was virtually empty besides a long table who had already received their meals. We were greeted (I say that lightly) by two male members of staff who were far from dynamic, with incredibly poor customer service, and if anything, looked unhappy at the sight of customers. We were seated, and drinks were ordered and delivered promptly. We were given an extremely lack of choice with a reduced small portions menu, which was not advertised on the website as the only menu available on a Wednesday. We then waited a further 30 minutes for someone to return and take our meal order, despite the pub being having very few customers. Both staff members were floating behind the bar doing not very much as dst as we could see, with one of them popping outside with a colourful vape in his hand! We became bored of waiting and eventually had to approach the bar to order our food. Although the food then arrived fairly quickly and was of a reasonable standard, we were all extremely disappointed at the lack of atmosphere, poor customer service from what seemed to be substandard staff, that I had not encountered on previous visits. I will not be returning any time soon unless those staff members front of house on that day have had some serious training on customer service as they are clearly not cut out for customer facing roles. It is very sad that what was a lovely pub has clearly gone downhill in recent months. In future I will be taking my custom elsewhere to The Pewsham as they clearly have much more consideration for...
Read moreIt's a clean, cosy pub with a "countrification" decor consisting of stag horns and tweed style soft furnishings.
Staff are friendly and professional and make you feel welcome.
My score reflects the food, not amazing, not terrible, just OK.
If you have seen any of my previous posts you will know I am a vegetarian. Options are limited and pricey for what they are, but OK.
My friend had gammon, egg & bubble and squeak and said it was OK, the gammon did look hand cut & juicy so imagine chef cooked it onsite as there is a definite homemade with love kind of feel about the place.
I am a bit snobby where food is concerned, I love to cook so when I go out I look for food that is either real trashy, things I've not had before or things I can't cook myself.
I will definitely come back if I've been for a long walk around Bowood for a drink & maybe dessert, but unlikely to have a main meal.
That sounds negative, it's not intended that way, the food is OK, it's just my preference is to spend my money on...
Read moreI was really unimpressed with the quality of the meal. The portion of roast pork I had was about 2 inches square and the bottom was so over cooked that I couldn't cut it. My friend had the (1 slice of) beef and had to leave a lot due to the poor quality of the meat. The roast potatoes were not light and fluffy, they were solid and not at all crispy. Very few vegetables and I had to ask for apple sauce, despite it being listed as included in the meal.
Unfortunately, pudding wasn't much better. I asked for a crème brulee and what arrived was more similar to cheesecake! No caramelised top, and with a biscuit base!
Service was very slow even though there weren't that many people in there when we had our meal. I was so disappointed with every aspect, especially for the exorbitant price being charged!
Normally I would have complained at the time but I was with a friend and didn't want to make a bad situation worse. Never have I felt like I wasted so much money (£62) on such a...
