Cycled to Levens Bakery extremely eager to try all the delicious goods I see posted on Instagram, and following lots of positive reviews from friends. We headed to the kitchen for some well earned breakfast. No one greeted us, and we were instructed by the sign to grab some menus and head to a table. There was no music and it felt as though all eyes were on you as you walked in. Pretty uncomfortable. After sitting down and looking at the menu it appeared only 3 things were available before 12pm, and unfortunately nothing we fancied (in contrast, the lunchtime menu had countless options). Not a problem, we headed over to the bakery to see if that had some breakfast options for us (hoping for pastries, scones etc) We found the bakery to only have a handful of cakes and no pastries available. Very disappointing trip after cycling miles for something tasty ☹️ Came away with a flapjack and a slice of cake. Nothing very special about either of them unfortunately. Feel like we were a little bit cat-fished, Instagram vs reality!! The grounds are lovely and...
Read moreWhat an amazing place! I went here for breakfast after suggestion from a friend. Place was highly rated and I thought let's see how well it can stand up to it. But my God, it did! Opened sharp at 10.00 and there were already 10s of people waiting in queue. We found a table and noted the table number for order. Placed our order I chose a simple Avocado toast with poached eggs. What a treat it was. The order came in quick as well. The toast was delicious, the poached eggs were perfect. There's a little Levens menu if going with kids. The only complaint I got was from my son who said his sourdough bread was little hard but he managed to have it patiently. We also visited the bakery and had some amazing cakes. Tried the passion fruit mango cake and the Banana salted caramel cake. My pal tried the chocolate beetroot cake. All tasted heavenly. Would definitely come back on my next drive...

Yes, the main cafe was full, so we were met at the door and offered the option of a seat in the courtyard or in the Howard Room beyond. We opted for the latter. Order placed at the counter, two glasses of tap water from the dispenser in the Howard Room, and our food arrived in a respectable amount of time. Sandwiches were deep-filled and fresh. Hash brown fries were chunky and filling (one portion would have done between the two of us). It worked out at £14 each, which in this day and age, and given the portion size, was fine. And given how busy it was, we were pleasantly surprised...
