I am absolutely disgusted by our experience at the Lions. We were told that food was served all day on Sunday so we arrived around 6 to be told meals weren’t served until 7 o’clock. We ordered drinks and put in our food order just before 7. The pub wasn’t busy and the people who were there were absorbed in watching a football match. Around 7.30 we were told by a member of staff that the chef wasn’t going to be cooking that night. Simply couldn’t be bothered was the impression we got. We had hungry children with us, but had no option but to leave. Will definitely not be returning. Since then we were told the food wasn’t that good, so another reason not to return. Can’t believe anyone can run a business like that. They don’t deserve to...

The place looks really good, very pretty location, a cosy interior well decorated and a very large carpark with lovely beer gardens. However I don't think I would return. Seemingly only one member of staff serving who appeared to be quite tired/down. I had the gammon steak with chips, onion rings and garnish and for the price of £14.99 I expected something of much better quality. It tasted like cheap frozen food and I found the chips to be really unpleasant. I had however wanted to have one of the specials which was sold out so maybe the specials are of a higher standard. If I was passing through again though, I would find somewhere...

Pleasant location however the pub itself is in need of some TLC. E.g. I noticed a hole in the ceiling of the gents, which was covered with masking tape.

If I were to rate on food alone I'd give 1 star. The food was shocking. Poor quality and overcooked. Also menu items are not as described. E.g. cheese sandwich with red onion chutney. The sandwich instead turned up with Branston pickle and no chutney.

Staff seemed a bit hostile too. Saw them serve a customer the wrong drink order and then proceed to blame the customer ordering for their own fault. Customer was quite clear in what they'd ordered, I heard from...

This place is a beautiful stop for those biking, walking the public paths through gorgeous fields and all thirsty and hungry people. It has a beautiful community atmosphere, the food is good and the outside seats and garden beautiful. We arrived on a sunny Sunday and enjoyed a delicious roast under the huge tree in front of the pub.

Perfect pub for a hiking trip, plenty of space inside the pub when the weather is not too good and plenty of tables in their front garden for the sunny days. The service is good, the Devon salad is so good as well the deserts, a good place to have a rest and the going back for more walk around these beautiful hills.

Wow this pub is beautiful. 1571 it opened. Over 650 years old. Midsummer murders has been filmed there. This place has charm and character. Meals are a very generous size on large plates. The barman was very friendly. It's a neat place to spend some time in. Pam & Mike NZ
