I was staying at the best western with work. I decided to eat in the onsite restaurant Marco's. Sat down at a nice table for one and given the menus, one set menu and on Al a cart menu. Was told that you were unable to swap and change menus you had to pick one. I decided on the garlic bread pizza and 8oz sirloin steak medium rare with salad instead of chips. This was confirmed back to me and I waited eagerly for my food after a long day. The garlic bread pizza arrived, it was not how I would of imagined it, for £5.50 I would have expected a full pizza of garlic bread. Having worked in the catering industry for many years previous to my current job I am fully aware how much this dish costs to make. The waiter then came over with a check and cleared my starters and started taking down my order again. Saying "so that was the siiirrrloin was that 8oz" I said I have already ordered. I then had to state my full mains order again. I decided not to say anything at this point and waiting for my steak to arrive. The dish was presented well but this is where my evening started to go abit down hill. The steak was more medium than medium rare. No redness insight. No one did a check back on me so did not mention this till after the meal. I decided not to have a dessert and asked for the bill. And here comes the worst part of the evening, I am starting back up at the gym and decided to take the healthier option of the salad (rocket and tomatos) instead of chips. The bill came over and the waitress asked me to check as there was issues when I ordered (take it that was why they checked my order again) she then adds the 2 open food charges on the bottom are for the rocket and tomatoes as a substitute charge. I advised that I had salad instead of chips and it was not advised at the time of ordering that it would be more money. Not to mention salad is cheaper in the grand scheme of things than chips. I also mentioned that the steak was more medium than medium rare and again an apology. She took off the open foods for the salad from the bill. But did not address my issue with the steak. I paid the bill then left. I have eaten in alot of different restaurants and worked in rosette standard restaurants. I do not mind paying decent money for decent food. But this place just did not warrent the higher prices. Just be aware if you as for salad instead of chips they will charge you...

A very disappointing first visit to this restaurant - we were expecting much better given the name. The staff were attentive and pleasant however, our whole dining experience was over in just under an hour. This is supposed to be pleasant dining, not fast food. On arrival we were seated right next to another family - given that we were the only 2 sets of customers in the restaurant, we could have been seated away from them, so avoiding overhearing their conversation. Our drinks were brought quickly - we asked for more time to consider the menu, on the 3rd time we were asked to order in only a few minutes, we did. Our 3 starters were brought out extremely quickly which makes you think it is not being prepared from scratch. The waitress appeared to be watching us eat, as our plates were cleared we asked for a break before the mains and were told sorry they are nearly ready! Within a few minutes our mains were with us. They could easily have asked us if we wanted some time before the mains were prepared - there were only 2 tables to serve, there should have been no rush. We ordered a mixed grill for 2 people - this was utterly disappointing, there was barely enough food for 1 - 2 tiny ribs each, 2 prawns each, 1 tiny piece of chicken each - the size of a small chicken wing and 3 thin slices of beef each - one of mine was inedible as it was pure gristle - there were no sides with it, no salad or vegetables, no potato or rice - nothing! At a cost of just under £50 for this one single meal - atrocious! The other 2 people with us had burgers and said they were nice but nothing special. We were asked if our meal was ok so I said no and explained our issues - we were told that the menu cannot be changed and our complaint would be passed to management - there was no offer of a discount to the bill or even a compensatory drink. We paid the bill - including the expected already included service charge and left. I very much doubt that we will return. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant, I have had fast food experiences with more...

I had high hopes walking into Marco's New York Italian, but unfortunately, the meal fell flat at every course.

We started with what can only be described as the driest focaccia imaginable. Despite its decent appearance, the bread was stiff and bland, lacking the fluffy, aromatic quality you'd expect from something billed as a starter. The herbs on top didn’t add much, and the texture suggested it had been sitting out for a while — stale and uninspired.

The main course, a steak, was no better. Visually, it looked underwhelming — pale and oddly rubbery with barely any sear or seasoning. It arrived lukewarm, with an unappetizing sheen that didn’t scream freshly grilled. A few wilted greens and some overcooked fries (soggy on the inside, chewy on the outside) rounded out the plate.

As for the cheesy green beans, they looked like they were drowned in an overly thick, gloopy sauce that overwhelmed the vegetables. The cheese was clumped rather than melted evenly, leaving the whole dish heavy and unbalanced. It felt more like a bad cafeteria attempt than anything resembling Italian comfort food.

Overall, Marco's New York Italian missed the mark entirely. With bland flavors, lazy presentation, and lackluster quality, this meal didn’t come close to the standards expected — especially considering the prices. Definitely wouldn’t return...

Had dinner here a couple of times as part of my stay with the Great Western. The meals are expensive for what you get however they are good. The lasagne was lovely but £16 just for lasagne and then having to pay for a side of chips (£3.50) is a bit much. The price for pizza which was really good was absolutely fine. Had a side of onion rings with pizza and they were soggy and greasy. The buffet breakfast was pretty decent. I would not dine here willingly as stated I only ate here due to staying at the hotel as part of a business trip.
