Good afternoon,
I have been a York resident for 75 years now, and whilst I have been aware of Sutton Park for quite a few of them, I have never visited it until today.
My wife and I arrived at the house around 11.30 this morning and decided to call at Miss Daisy Tea Rooms for a coffee prior to walking around the estate. We stood outside the cafe for around 20 minutes, along with several other people, in the blazing sun, as the sign outside stated "please wait here to be seated". Eventually, because nobody seemed interested in us, I went inside to be greeted by a very abrupt, rude woman who was clearly very stressed, who said that they were currently awaiting a large party of visitors (which we later learnt that it consisted of 13 people only). She said that she was currently not taking any more orders, until after 1.15 when the "large party" had hopefully dispersed, and immediately said she was closing the door, and putting a sign up stating that it was temporarily closing until 1.15 - charming! I returned at approximately 1.10 only to be told that I could place an order, but she had no idea how long we would have to wait to be served (all I wanted was 2 coffees and a scone plus a toasted teacake). At approximately 2.00 we were still awaiting service and my wife returned to the cafe to enquire as to whether we could just have the 2 coffees whilst we were waiting, and was told that we shouldn't have been allowed to place an order at all, because they were under intense pressure whilst apparently still prioritising the "massive group booking". My wife was told that "no, they didn't have time to make coffees, didn't have the time to listen to her dissatisfaction with the extremely poor service we had already had, and that we, as visiting customers were not a priority. There was a couple on the next table who had a 9 week old baby who was well overdue for its feed, and the young girl went into the cafe for hot water to heat the baby's food, and was told that they didn't have time, and promptly closed and locked the door preventing her re-entry. At approximately 2.30, after we had at long last been served by a charming young waitress, we had a visit from a woman, believed to be the owner, who said that she had been there for 21 years, and was a friend of the Sheffields, who attempted (rather feebly) to apologise for her rudeness. Her opening line was "I've come to save you the bother of sending an email" YEAH RIGHT! She admitted, rather begrudgingly, to being rude, but once again said that she was under pressure. I said that no amount of pressure excuses rudeness and extremely bad service, and she said "I've apologised, what more can I do?"
My wife and I eat out around York quite a lot, but this was the worst example of customer service I have experienced in a considerable...
Read moreMiss Daisy’s Team Rooms recently provided the catering services for our garden cocktail party. The canapés and buffet style food created for our special day was simply delicious and a huge success with our 60 or so guests!!
From the moment we sat down with Hilary and had our first discussion about the party, we knew that we were in expert hands. She confidently took charge of everything from start to finish and was a joy to work with. She listened carefully to our suggestions but made plenty of her own. Hilary is wonderfully creative, endlessly enthusiastic and nothing was too much trouble. Her experience and professionalism ensured that we never had a moment’s worry. Waitressing staff were provided to assist us on the day and they added some style and glamour - their expert contribution was greatly appreciated. Everything was achieved seemingly effortlessly without any fuss, which belied all the hard work that had gone on behind the scenes beforehand.
Miss Daisy’s Tea Rooms is a family-owned, family-run business. There is a happy, relaxed atmosphere whenever I visit and always the warmest of welcomes. I feel certain the friendliness of the staff must partly explain the appeal of the tearooms, that and the delicious food of course. It’s a special place and if you haven’t visited yet, I highly recommend that you visit soon!
Our sincere thanks to Hilary, Daisy and the whole team for their hard work and for helping make our day memorable and the wonderful success...
Read moreFirst of all i can’t review the food as i never got any.
Popped round for a sandwich on my lunch break, when i arrived there was already an older couple stood baking in the sun, as per instructions, waiting to be served/seated. After a few minutes, and after looking me up and down (i was in manual work clothing) a woman came out with a sign saying “sorry were closed now” and turned the 3 of us away, saying that a coach full of tourists was due and they have to prioritise them. (For all she knew we could have only wanted a bottle of water but we weren't even asked). Now i totally understand about prioritising the coach but surely any decent paying customer waiting in line BEFORE she put that sign out should of still been served. The older couple had been stood there over 10 minutes they said, and this woman had passed them multiple times. Im guessing she was the owner. Not a very nice woman, doesn't appreciate or deserve any custom at all if you ask me.
No manners or decency.
Avoid if you have any morals.
**after reading some of the other comments on here i have come to the conclusion that this place is ran by Mrs bouquet, i...
