Whilst we were on our “staycation” a few weeks ago in Foggathorpe, North Yorkshire, we really fancied going out for a “local” curry. There wasn’t a lot of choice for a Monday night in that area but I remembered passing Mumbai Lounge the day before after driving to our lodge from Pocklington. From the outside the restaurant doesn’t look like much however don’t judge a book by it’s cover! We did a quick TripAdvisor search and this place had lots of good reviews so we went ahead and booked it.
When we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome and walked through to the large, clean and smart dining area. The menu is vast here but offers many tasty sounding dishes from your traditional curries to various specialities. The menu also has a section detailing which wines can be best paired with which types of Indian dishes contrary to the belief that wine doesn’t necessarily go with this type of cuisine – it was an interesting read! We decided to stick with our usual pints of Cobra to wash our food down with though.
As always we started off with poppadoms and pickle tray, one of the dips was a mixture of pickled beetroot, onions and carrot which I particularly liked! We decided not to fill up on starters so went straight to mains;
I went for the SHALIMAR KHARNI – Chicken breast cooked with diced mixed peppers, spring onions, garlic, ginger and coriander, delicately flavoured with a touch of cream. (Medium to hot). MASSIVE chunks of chicken that just fell apart, and a strongly spiced curry – this was delicious.
Ben chose the SOUTH BENGAL GARLIC CHILLI – The recipe is hundreds of years old. Cooked with fresh sliced garlic, fresh green chillies and plum tomatoes, garnished with coriander. (Hot taste). He chose the lamb that again just melted in the mouth. Very garlicky and had a great kick to it.
We went with a side of Matar Paneer and shared rice and a garlic Naan. All of the food we received was cooked well and as at most Indian restaurants the portions were large so we didn’t quite manage everything but every bit was delicious.
Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll get to visit this venue again unless we are in the area but for anyone that is or is planning a trip around the Shiptonthorpe/Pocklington/Market Weighton area I HIGHLY recommend you visit...
Read moreThis Indian Restaurant is of the finest quality in every respect.The food is absolutely delicious but for me personaly the way I have been treated by the Restaurateur Mr Kamal Shah and his staff have been nothing short of incredible.My wife and I are both in the very vulnerable health category so it is not possible for either of us to go into a Restaurant even for a takeaway.Does that matter or phase Mr Shah not on your life.Every Saturday evening he accomodates my requirements with a smile on his face.I would recommend that everyone should frequent this Restaurant without a second thought.
Visited the Mumbai Lounge for a meal with my family on the 18/09.This was my wife and I first visit to any inside location since March 2020.I was a little nervous because we are both extremely vulnerable.I had no need to worry, Mr Shah went out of his way to make sure we were all safe selecting a table for the seven of us at the back end of the Restaurant.Everything was perfect, the food,the cleanliness,the welcoming attitude of Mr Shah and his staff, all absolutely great.For me Mumbai Lounge is out and out the...
Read moreWent here on 12/12/2022 for my wifes birthday as a second option after the Chinese restaurant at the plough inn was oddly closed and lights all off even though it said it was open online, but we were actually happy as the food was SO GOOD. Was very quiet as it was a cold Monday evening and roads were a bit icy, but the staff were friendly and venue is very nice, and probably the best curries we've had for a long time, if not the best in general. We had poppadoms, chicken tikka and pakoras to start, then butter chicken and a chicken bhuna, and got a naan to share. They gave us an extra naan because they felt the one they had given us was a bit small, we were also being very polite and nice to them, never a bad thing to be nice to your servers.
We were both absolutley stuffed and i wanted to finish everything on the plate but couldn't even lean over hah. Was very generous portions and a surprisingly good price to say we both had 2 drinks too, so gave a nice tip as we were very happy with the service.
Absolutley recommend, and will definatley be returning for another occasion...
