We found this chippy on the way back from Llangollen. Out pretty much in the middle of nowhere, this chippy/store/restaurant/chemist etc.etc. was an extremely busy place. Staff running around all over the place. The place itself seemed very 'odd' as when you ordered your meal you then paid, then stand inside the shop area with others until your meal was called out ready. No ticket number or anything. Seemed very odd. Usually you pay, then you get your meal afterwards. Not here. You hang around for what seems like an eternity not knowing what's going on, and then in the hope that you get to hear your entire order read out. No secrets here!! Whatever you order, everyone standing waiting will know! In my case they probably sniggered and said "we can see who eats all the pies!". :D So the layout is very bizarre. When you stand at the chip shop counter ordering, behind you is a convenience store. In a glass display cabinet next to the till are drugs, i.e. beechams powders, anadin etc.etc. Further along there is a bar. Yes, you read this correctly, a BAR!! The other side of the wall their is a restaurant. Oh, and not forgetting the lollies that are in a small chest freezer in front of the chip shop counter. How strange! :D
But other than the strange layout and ordering system. The food itself is pretty good! The chips were lovely along with the aforementioned pie. The small fish that we ordered however was not good. There was none of the usual white flakes of meat inside the batter, more like a mushed up odd tasting affair.
So I would say that it's an average place for a takeaway, but a very convenient store if you're caught short for milk, booze,...
Read moreWe stopped here Easter Sunday. The place was really quiet. We ordered chips but they were really really dry. We have noticed a pattern emerging with this place. If you order during quiet times,ie late afternoons or national holidays, the chips and food may well have been left standing unsold for a long time. That's when you end up with it. The pie I ordered was as dry as sawdust and the pastry was burnt tough. I know these places have to make a profit but serving regular customers dried up chips and pies knowing full well they have been standing for hours is not good for business.I can only imagine the conversation you have when the customer has left with the food? Something like "😆😆😆😆" perhaps? Well, from the large property behind fancy gates and expensive cars at the rear of the restaurant,I can see you are doing quite nicely out of serving up burnt offerings for top dollar. I won't be returning with my dollars though.Too many times I've given you the benefit of the doubt. Oh,and tell the blokes behind the counter to smile more. They...
Read moreGood fish n chips but have found the prices to be rapidly creeping up. Some food is already cooked and stored in the hot counter but we like the fact that you can wait while fish is freshly cooked though we were told 8 minutes and it actually took almost 20 for our regular sized fish. Mushy peas somewhat tasteless and too runny. I am told by my fellow diners that the curry sauce and gravy are ok. Our fish were well cooked and the large portion of chips was enough for us with some left over. We usually prefer to eat in as the food is hot and fresh and the fish batter very crisp. On this visit we were having takeaway and travelling 5 miles, we noticed that after being wrapped up the batter was a little too soggy for our liking. Mixed feelings about returning which is a shame as we've been coming here since it...
