Thought we’d give this place a go, just outside Deanshanger, based on a friend’s recommendation.
The building itself from the outside looks nothing special, situated on a petrol station forecourt. However, the inside decor is much nicer than the outside appearance.
We were greeted and taken to our table as we had already booked. It was 7.30pm on a Saturday and we were the only customers, which did set some alarm bells ringing for me.
Our table was already set with a tray of dips so we ordered some poppadums and drinks.
And so the dips…… my partner noticed straightaway that there was a dead housefly adrift in the mango chutney. It clearly hadn’t just flown in, it was very dead.
We sent the mango chutney back, but then I found myself checking the other dips for anything that looked like an insect. It was very off putting and wish I’d just left then as I kept thinking about how that fly had got into my chutney.
We ordered butter chicken, massani chicken, garlic fried rice and garlic naan for main. It arrived quite quickly and was presented well.
The rice had a lovely burnt garlic flavour to it, but was unfortunately quite greasy. This, I’m afraid, was a theme that ran through all the dishes. The butter chicken (photo in this review) had the oil separating out of the dish. It made all the meals quite heavy and left a greasy coating in the mouth. My partner left most of his butter chicken.
By 8.15 we’d finished and there were two other tables now seated, so still not busy. We asked for the bill … and so back to the dips…..
As the dips were already uncovered and on the table we were seated at, I assumed they were complimentary. When the bill came there was a £4 charge for dips! I’ve got a few problems with this: it should have been made clear to start with we were paying for the dips £4 is on the high end of price for a few dips they weren’t knocked off the bill for the dead housefly and no apology given
All in all, not a great experience and it just left me wondering how their dips are...
Read moreI came in specifically for their buffet deal £14.95 . Few points i was not happy about
Do not judge this place based on the exterior
Inside is lovely and calm and clean and pleasing to dine in
We were welcomed warmly and offered seating and menus promptly
Ordered poppadoms 90p each and the chutney tray £3.50 And onion bhajis! These were amazing! The kind waited advised there were 2 for a portion and there was 3 of us ..... I said it was fine, but when he returned with them they had given us 3 which I thought was lovely and a very nice little touch!
Mains were lovely , perhaps a smidge more rice would have been good but we were unsure of portion size so did not want to over order so daughter and I shared rice and garlic naan with a main each
Our order was delish Chicken tikka masala Chicken bhuna And we tried a dish between the boy bestie and I of the chilli garlic chicken (hot) highly recommended Boy bestie had one of the chefs specials which comes with rice and it wad hot and he enjoyed it
