Shocking attitude from the staff and manager! We visited this pub for food and we’re actually asked to leave for attempting to speak to the manager regarding the staff attitude we encountered and a complaints form. We visited the establishment at around 6pm on Saturday 14th may, the place was very busy as there was a football match on, and we ordered our food to the table. The girl, short with dark hair and lots of makeup, who was waitressing came outside with our food and placed it on, what we thought she was unaware of being, the wrong table. We approached the table and noticed that she was simply having a chat with a friend she had in the pub at that table, we politely asked if we would be able to take our food when she told us to wait a minute which was very unexpected. We told her that the way she was wondering with our food was not acceptable and she attempted to say that she had stopped at that table, which was not even in the same direction as ours, due to the plates being hot. She then went to get our second load of plates and literally threw it on the table resulting in chips bouncing out of the bowls to which we still responded with a thank you and she turned to us and said “oh so you want to be nice now”. I was so surprised as to her actions that I approached the bar and attempted to speak to her manager, who she had already ran toward inside and attempting to speak to her herself. The manager (Chloe) approached me and before we had a chance to speak to her she commented “don’t worry I heard the way you spoke to her” which again was completely out of the blue and very abrupt. Earlier in the evening I did however hear her approach some lads on the table next to us and be very aggressive towards one of them regarding them smashing a glass at another time. Chloe was obviously struggling, she was not dressed for work, looked as though she had been out the night before and had been dragged out of bed to attend work. I acknowledged at that point that these are obviously friends as well as workmates so there was little point in attempting to talk to her about her friends conduct. She informed me that the company doesn’t have a complaints form and that it is done online. I asked her for the website and she couldn’t give me that, but at this time, she was commenting on not wanting to do something in front of children, almost as though she was expecting a street fight or something. It was very strange to say the least. We then returned to our food and drink at the table where she then approached us and asked us to leave! I turned to her and genuinely asked if she was joking to which she said no, I new the levels of unprofessionalism started at the very top at this point. I pointed at our food on the table and said we will finish our food and then leave but this was not accepted, she said I would rather give you a refund than serve you anymore! I accepted the refund and have filed an official complaint with Marston, I hope they take a very close look at this particular care and that Chloe and her friend are held responsible for their actions. I’ve also attached a copy of the receipt that stated the refund was due to poor service, however it was actually down to a couple of friends not acknowledging they...

Came in with my dad and brother, ordered our food which came out extremely quickly, however even with the swift service the food was still above par. after reading some reviews on here i was sceptical, however that quickly went away after seeing the food, large portions which was great for 3 blokes, as well as extremely tasty.

The chicken we all had was moist and tasty with great seasoning which differentiated the meals from each other and wasn't just the same chicken with different sides.

All of our meals were hot, tasty and fresh.

The only thing i would of liked would of been less onions on my "chic a filck" (i think it was called that) and less on the hunters chicken.

the hunters chicken could of also been slightly bigger with more chips than a small bowl the same with my chic-flick.

a bit more BBQ sauce on the hunters chicken and another breast of chicken as the hunters chicken was dwarfed by mine and my dads maple chicken meals.

The land lady was lovely and very inviting and seemed genuinely happy that we were ordering (unlike the hungry horses manager who sighs and moans about everything, and also makes it hard to order) she offered us changes to our meals and immediately informed us of anything they didn't have so not to order the food then find something missing.

overall our experience was very good and a few small things would make this place at the top of Chippenhams budget...

Went here earlier this week, started off really nice, the atmosphere was great and the staff was friendly. Me and my significant other ordered food, starters and mains, the starters came out fast and was nice, however we then waited quite awhile for the mains, witch was ok at first however when they arrived they wasn’t good, my significant other had a fish and chips witch they did enjoy however my “mega mixed grill” was far from mega, the steaks was way over cooked (well done) and the chicken was so dry you’d think it had been left out in the sun for hours, dispute this we was still going to have desert until it took the staff over 10 minutes to clear out plates even though we had stacked them on the edge of the table to show we was done with them. This was also a very quiet night with only 2 other tables in the lounge eating. Made the whole thing just feel awful, which is a shame given how well it started won’t be...

What had become a very tired old pub has now been transformed in to a stunning new venue complete with one of the biggest TV screens I've ever seen in a pub! Both the lounge and the bar are unrecognisable and beautifully finished. Brand new top spec pool tables have replaced the knackered old tables and, despite all the money that has been spent, the drinks are still very reasonably priced as is the food. I'm certain that the (new) Old Lane, with Bill at the helm will return to its former glory of years gone by. Well done and thank you to Marstons for bringing our local back to life.

The food was incredible, we attended with 3 adults and 4 children of which 1 with a dairy allergy. The food was all brought out together and tasted amazing. The bar manager, Phil was incredibly helpful and enthusiastic with assisting us in identifying appropriate products for our young one with dairy intolerance. The other staff as well were smiley and also incredibly prompt and helpful. 10/10 will visit again. (Somehow we had room for dessert which was also top tier!)
