Wanted to go to somewhere near to Kingswood and was I pressed by the photos I saw online for The Old Lock & Weir, made the booking online which was very quick and straight forward.

On arrival we were greeted warmly by the team, and also by Jess, a rather fabulous black lab (say hello, make a fuss, she's wonderful).

Table, drinks, and menus sorted quickly. We chose to sit inside as it was a bit dark/cold out (October visit), but I would imagine it's spectacular in the summer to sit outside with the river running by.

Chicken wings and greaded garlic mushrooms for our starters which arrived promptly and were great.

For our mains we had the gammon (eggs AND pineapple!), and the BBQ ribs, they did not disappointed. Excellent portion sizes and very good value for money.

Bill was about £70 for the two of us, that was for 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 lagers, 1 bottled lager, and 2 soft drinks. I felt this was very good value for money based on the lovely food, the excellent portion sizes, and the interaction/conversations we enjoyed with the team whilst we were there. Jess was an added bonus (adorable).

Will definitely be returning, and would like tonvisit in the spring/summer to experience the outdoor option also.

Thank you for your hospitality and lovely food, we both had a really nice...

Five-Star Review for The Old Lock and Weir's Sunday Roast

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I recently enjoyed the Sunday roast at The Old Lock and Weir, and it was an incredible experience! I opted for the trio of roast meats, and I’m so glad I did. Each type of meat was incredibly tender and bursting with flavor, truly a meat lover's dream.

The homemade rich, thick gravy was the star of the show—so delicious that I didn’t even need any additional sauce. It perfectly complemented the succulent meats and made the entire dish feel indulgent.

The service was outstanding, with Dan and the bar staff providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They were attentive without being intrusive, making sure we had everything we needed throughout our meal.

The ambiance of the pub is cozy and inviting, making it the perfect spot to enjoy a hearty Sunday feast. I can't recommend The Old Lock and Weir enough for their Sunday roast—it’s a must-try! I’ll definitely be back for more! Compliments to the chef Lauren and Maddie...

Booked a table for 6. Arrived and there were no parking spaces anywhere due to car park being open to everyone using the river as well as pubs. Had to queue for ages to get to the bar and when I got there and said I had a booking I was told to just “sit anywhere”. I had specifically booked a table outside due to the nice weather and obviously there were no free tables outside so we had to sit indoors. All that was available was roast dinners at £20 each. The kids menu seen online was not available so I had an unhappy child.

I wish I had booked next door at the Chequers which looked a lot more organised. The whole reason I booked here was to have a nice meal with a river view, instead it was a chipped table and cobwebs everywhere.

When asked why our table was not reserved we were told it was too busy and they didn’t have time to do it!

Biggest waste of...

Been coming here for many years. Food menu and quality has been greatly improved in recent times. I visited today and had the pulled beef brisket loaded fries topped with cheese, bbq sauce, chilli’s and spring onion. Absolutely fantastic dish, full of flavour, brisket was tender as, and those chilli’s provide the right amount of kick! Lovely stuff! The team are always friendly and service is top notch. Great selection of draught and bottled drinks. One of a few places to sell Beavertown - Neck Oil (pricey, as always, yet one of my personal favourites and worth it). Nice refurb as well recently. If you’re local to the area, go support this fantastic pub, situated in the most idyllic location. If you’re not local to the area, it’s definitely worth the trip!

Ok, but definitely don't recommend for food! Fine enough place to go for a drink outside by the river. Service a bit hit and miss - waiter delivered our food without asking for sauces and didn't provide cutlery (definitely wasn't finger food!). When cutlery arrived it was dirty and the napkin was so wet is basically fell apart. In a covid environment, we found the lack of attention to hygiene concerning - if this is what it is acceptable to deliver to customers, I worry about what happens in the kitchen. Overall, nice setting, but probably won't go back here. Bit disappointing.

Two riverside pubs side by side provide a delightful setting off the beaten track, with ample shaded seating on the riverside. Both pubs provide food, and there's ample parking both in the 'old' car park or along the riverside, where there's also shaded seating below the trees. Additionally, a pleasant stroll up past the riverside cottages will bring you to the nature trail one way, and the other way will take you on a riverside amble if you're so minded. Well worth a visit on a warm sunny afternoon or evening.
