Unfortunately one of the worst lunch experiences we’ve had in a very long time. We visited for Sunday lunch on Father’s Day, the service was good, and the ladies on front of house were polite and friendly. The starters were fine, with no complaints, however the mains, the lamb was lovely, but the Beef was far from it, out of the three of us that had it, one was okay but a couple pieces little too pink, another had half the plate too pink, and the last served with nearly none of the meat cooked even to a medium rare, the actual beef was cold and extremely bloody, so much so that it left my mother running to the toilet to vomit. I like my steaks rare to medium-rare, pink with a little blood, however I could see after looking under the gravy that this had hardly seen any source of heat, and was practically raw. Unfortunately ruined our lunch and Father’s Day. While the lady did take off 2 of the mains as. They were hardly touched due to the beef just being too rare, pretty much raw. We were still left with the bill for everything else, at quite a price as well. £18 for a Sunday lunch, even if the beef was perfect, still wouldn’t have been worth it, was only served with a very small plate of veg between 2. I’m not sure how this place has achieved the reviews it has, but unfortunately one of the worst dinning experiences I’ve had for the last...
Read moreWe really like this pub in the village where we live. The owners are really nice and welcoming and the pub environment is super clean and has two open fires. The food is really fantastic and everything is home made and cooked to an amazing standard. The presentation of the food was like a picture from a cookery book and the flavours of the two dishes we had were really out of this world. The lamb shank was perfect and the game pie was really packed with meat which was really tender and not overly gamey. Both dishes are really worth a try if available. My Wife's Tanqueray Sevilla Orange Gin (x2) really made her day and I tried both the Guiness options - standard (x1) and extra cold (x2). I had to go for a bike ride to burn off the calories but they were some of the best calories that I've been fortunate enough to acquire. We can't recommend this pub highly enough and we are lucky to live so near to it. PS There is also a nice courtyard to sit in and we enjoyed that when it was warmer weather...
Read moreVisited on a Saturday on my way back from Midsomer Norton to Tavistock. I wanted to find a place to eat before joining the motorway. The first place I stopped at did not do food, Onwards and came across The Packhorse Inn, it was getting towards 2 o'clock when most pubs stopped serving for the afternoon. I am so glad I found this place. Ordered a steak and ale pie. Two other customers came in later, and although food was no longer being served, they made some sandwiches, especially for them. In the meantime, I was enjoying the best ever steak and ale pie I have ever had. It came with chips and peas. The filling was jam-packed and tasty. It was described as a Desperate Dan pie on arrival. (If you know, you know! Old like me!) I ate it all, and it certainly filled a gap, that's for sure. Service was friendly, quick, and attentive. Although it was quiet, I feel the service would have been the same if it was busy. All in all, a...
