I've been going here since a child so thats some 24years. We wanted to sit outside today, a pleasant 19degree July day and what with the dog in tow itbwas our only option. The courtyard at the back is sheltered and an absolute sun trap. Whilst we chose off the menu it was apparent my mother and I and the 2 tables sat next to us were feeling the sun's affect and were starting to burn. As the waiter came to take the order we asked to have our sun umbrellas up. The polite member of staff said of course. So we all began to put up our umbrellas which has been bungie corded shut. Within 2 minutes another member of staff came out promptly and started putting our umbrellas down saying it was health and safety cos there was a breeze. I've never heard so much utter rubbish in my life. Honestly the sheer lack of care towards your paying guests who were being burned by the sun was obscene. He continued to say the weather was due to gust and the umbrellas wouldn't cope. Firstly get better umbrellas then if they can't cope with a summer breeze and secondly look around and see for yourself that the umbrella we had put up wasn't even moving in the "wind". The two tables next to us were as dismayed as ourselves at the rudeness and ridiculousness of it all. The gent ok yhe next table did debate going inside to have a word with the manager but his wife just wanted to finish her sandwich and leave as her time had also been ruined by the rudeness. We didnt hang around to enjoy our lunch as it wasn't pleasant, what could of been a leisurely lunch was shortened significantly. When you come to a cafe on a warm day you expect some hospitality. Sadly from the wonderful service we used to recieve in years gone by pamphill cafe is somewhat lacking. As a local this is...
Read moreHave been here many times before but they have a daft new system. I was part of two families who came to have lunch yesterday and we ended up leaving without being able to buy lunch which is bananas. We queued for 10mins to use the new ‘take away’ to be told they didn’t have any food - apart from crisps and ice creams. So we went to the cafe to get a sit down lunch - were greeted by a rope to stop us coming in and a pretty unfriendly host who told us they were full. When I asked if we could get some food to eat outside he told me no. I explained the ‘take away’ was empty and he just said ‘we don’t serve food there’ - erm??!! The menu there says it should have usage rolls and sandwiches etc. So three very hungry and grumpy kids later we ended up just going back to one of our houses. This seems nuts when the cafe is chocked full of food and there were tonnes of free tables outside. The system just seems really silly and the staff were not friendly or helpful. We used to love this place but it just seems...
Read moreHad to wait behind a rope to be seated. Plenty of seats were available but no we were obviously invisible. I was wanting a nice coffee with my adult son before he left for abroad for the year. Eventually we were seated. The breakfast menu was automatically slapped down in front of us. We just wanted a coffee and small sweet treat. I asked for a latte, my son asked for a cappuccino. They were both scolding hot. My son burned his mouth. The latte was more like milky coffee my mother used to make 40 years ago. It was not a latte as far as i was concerned. They could consider itemising the bill so you can check it but no...you just paid at the counter. Not good. Improvements...
