We had high hopes for this place as they have good reviews, but overall quite disappointing.||We originally booked Tosca and Starkrimson for 1 night, but due to change of plans we emailed and ask if we could extend our stay to 2 nights. |We stated that we would prefer to stay at the same room but don't mind switching rooms if necessary. Got a reply saying it was all sorted and a booking confirmation email, but it didn't state which room, so naturally we assume we are staying in the same room for both nights.|However we were showed to different rooms(Bartlett and Comice), the rooms are nice but it was not we were expecting. The staff helping us check if she could move us back to the original rooms, but all rooms are booked obviously since it is summer. |She said she could talk to the manager or get her for us when we come to dinner. |Speaking of, we booked breakfast bed and dinner, nonetheless they asked if we are having dinner here, and apparently they do not have us on the list. ||Dinner was ok, great burger and ribeye, lamb a bit tough, chicken quite dry, orzo a bit overcooked. It was a busy night but still, dinner took us more than 2 hours. Service was really slow, took about 45 mins to serve starter, it was well over an hour when we received our mains. |Second night's dinner was a lot quieter, only 3-4 tables including us, but service was just as slow. |We ordered 2 craft beer which are in a can and it still took more than 15 mins, and 1 of the 2 is a different beer, |we thought it was a new can design but when we asked, they brought us the correct one this time round. |The Chicken Cesar salad and mac&cheese were very good. However our fish was so salty that we struggle to finish. Don't know if it's too much capers or the chef just over seasoned the fish. What a shame.||Breakfast was good, nice homemade granola, full English and smoked salmon toast was good. Took about 10 mins for an extra cup of coffee to come, and we were the only table so we don't quite understand what was taking so long?|| What really made this experience disappointing was the staff. My partner went downstairs on the first night after dinner cos the shower water temperature wasn't stable. Manager said they could get someone to look at it in the morning but it wouldn't be a plumber, cannot guarantee if they could fix it. |My partner also asked about our room situation, but felt like the manager was brushing him off. She was like the rooms are fully booked what do you want me to do. Well you tell me you are the manager? My partner said maybe a few drinks on the house and we did get free drinks at dinner on our second night.|We understand it's late and maybe she was maybe doing some accounting, but her mannerism left a really bad taste.||During breakfast on the day we check out, a neighbourhood cat came inside and the chef and we were petting it, another female staff came in and shooed it away, closed the front door and said it has to go home, that it wasn't allowed inside.|My partner and I went outside and see if the cat was still around, it was in the front garden so I was taking pictures of it and was beckoning it to come over to me, the same female staff came out and told me not to entice the cat, her mannerism almost made me feel inferior and I felt I was being scolded. |Later we heard the cat was not allowed inside because it has sprayed all over the walls and they couldn't get the smell out.|While I understand the reasoning, the staff could have explained when she told us not to interact with the cat, her manner was really unpleasant.|| When we checked out the room rates were 10 pounds more per room, it is then we realised the rooms were more expensive than the ones we originally wanted. When we checked the booking confirmation email, the price was indeed 10 pounds more than the original but it didn't state which room.(Where the original confirmation stated which room)|Should have asked back then, we weren't paying too much attention. |Were also charged extra 8.75 pounds for the ribeye and sauce, which we were told the extra for ribeye is 3 pounds and no mentioning of extra charge for sauce. ||Overall a disappointing experience because of the staff and service, the only nice staff encounter was the lovely gardener Elaine, had a nice little chat and she gave us recommendations on where to visit nearby. Considering it is 225 pounds per night, I expected much better service. Nice décor, good location, lovely garden, it's a shame, not sure if we will...

We had high hopes for this place as they have good reviews, but overall quite disappointing.

We originally booked Tosca and Starkrimson for 1 night, but due to change of plans we emailed and ask if we could extend our stay to 2 nights. We stated that we would prefer to stay at the same room but don't mind switching rooms if necessary.(meaning switching rooms between the 1st and 2nd night) Got a reply saying it was all sorted and a booking confirmation email, but it didn't state which room, so naturally we assume we are staying in the original rooms for both nights. However we were showed to different rooms, all rooms are booked obviously since it is summer. Staff said she could talk to the manager or get her for us when we come to dinner. We booked breakfast bed and dinner but apparently they do not have us on the list.

Dinner was ok, great burger and ribeye, lamb a bit tough, chicken quite dry, orzo a bit overcooked. It was a busy night but still, dinner took us more than 2 hours. Service was really slow, took about 35 mins to serve starter, it was well over an hour when we received our mains. Ordered 2 craft beer which are canned and still took more than 15 mins, and 1 of the 2 was a different beer, we thought it was a new can design but when we asked, they brought us the correct one this time round. Chicken Cesar and mac&cheese were good. However our fish was so salty that we struggled to finish.

Breakfast was good, nice homemade granola, full English and smoked salmon toast was good. Took about 10 mins for an extra cup of coffee to come, and we were the only table so we don't quite understand what was taking so long?

My partner went downstairs on the first night after dinner cos the shower water temperature wasn't stable. Manager said they could get someone to look at it but cannot guarantee anything. Also mentioned our room situation, but the manager was brushing him off. She was like the rooms are fully booked what do you want me to do. We understand it's late and maybe she was doing some accounting, but her mannerism left a really bad taste.

During breakfast on the day we check out, a neighbourhood cat came inside near the front door and we went and see it, a female staff came and shooed it away, closed the front door and said it has to go home, that it wasn't allowed inside. My partner and I went outside and see if the cat were still around, it was in the front garden so I was taking pictures of it and was beckoning it to come over to me, the same female staff came out and told me not to entice the cat, she was quite rude. Even if it wasn't her intention, she made me feel inferior and I felt I was being scolded. Later we heard the cat was not allowed inside because it has sprayed all over the walls before and they couldn't get the smell out. While we understand the reasoning, the staff could have explained when she told us not to interact with the cat, it was really unpleasant.

When we checked out, the room rates were £10 more per room, it is then we realised the rooms were more expensive than the ones we originally wanted. When we checked the booking confirmation email, the price was indeed £10 more than the original. Should have asked back then, we weren't paying enough attention. Were also charged extra £8.75 for the ribeye and sauce, which we were told the extra for ribeye is £3 and no mentioning of extra charge for sauce.

Overall a disappointing experience because of the staff and service, the only nice staff encounter was the lovely gardener Elaine, she saw us looking around in the garden and stopped to have a little chat with us, she also gave us recommendations on where to visit nearby. Considering it is £225 per night, we expected much better service. Nice décor, good location, lovely garden, it's a shame, not sure if we will...

Lovely building, nice location and pretty garden. The staff were friendly but a few mistakes were made, no condiments were bought out to match the roasts until we asked if they had any (Horseradish, mustard for the beef, mint sauce for lamb and apple sauce for pork). The beef was a bit too fatty in my opinion and others I noticed with the beef left largeish piles of fat, to be fair the crispy pork belly did look good but as I had beef back to the review. Tender enough, not the depth of flavour I was craving for so don't think aged particularly long and you received I believe two slices which seemed a little mean.. In fact the whole roast whilst a suitable portion certainly was on the smaller side and if hungry you'd definitely need a starter and or pudding. Along with the beef there was three small lightly roasted potatoes and a slight odd mix of roast vegetables to share plus the world's smallest strip of Yorkshire Pudding that was hiding under a piece of beef. Also gravy was in very limited supply, especially with those having beef, I think they'd been running out as when we asked for some they came with pork based gravy which explained why those who were eating pork didn't have the same issue. They did later then provide an extremely small cream for jug with a little beef gravy so at least one of our table happy. So overall at £23ish before service charge I definitely have had better, larger portion at similar prices before and whilst a step above a cheap carvery it wasn't a sizeable step. But as mentioned the pork did look nice yet the potatoes and vegetables the same (my sister even had two sizeable dry onion skins in the vegetable mix whereby onions not suitably prepared) Anyway on to a pudding as the whole table still hungry and here they did better, a nice sticky toffee pudding, enjoyable sauce, good vanilla ice cream and a fun chunk of honeycomb toffee was enjoyed, likewise my partner enjoyed her lime and coconut sponge with ice cream and the desserts but inexpensive but fairly priced for the quality. Overall though for one roast, one veg based alternatives, two days and one drink each plus service charge and that was £87 which we consider expensive for what received. At the end of the day, loved the place, the location, friendly staff, large car park, dog friendly but mains didn't wow whatsoever, deserts were decent and the price on the high side. Would be prepared to try a different menu not on a Sunday to see if any better but not one I'd go out of my way for.

We stayed at The Pear Tree Inn in Wiltshire as a couple from 20th June 2022 to 24th June 2022 somewhat overpriced at £152.50 per night with dog, and breakfast included. I did not write a review straight away as unfortunately my husband and I became infected with Covid while staying in Wiltshire and it has taken a long time to recover. On first impressions, the Tosca room was well presented, pretty décor, and a comfy, well-presented bed, but too small for a couple with only one armchair. There were no facilities for the dog, no fenced off area to let her out. The cold water tap always ran with hot water, and the bathroom radiator was constantly on, with no means to turn it off. There was supposed to be bottled water in our room, but there was none left. The back terraced area was unkempt, full of weeds and the outdoor chairs and table were unclean and corroded, so obviously unsuitable for use. On the first morning, I chose scrambled eggs which were undercooked, so I avoided scrambled eggs the following mornings. Also, on the first night, we ordered two cold drinks from the bar. I said to my husband that there were strange bits floating in my glass, which made me reluctant to drink it. There was a ‘comedian’ Jared Christmas, performing on our last night. He heckled us with a tirade of offensive and bullying comments with much of his audience looking and turning towards us and laughing while we were passing by and walking the dog outside in the garden. My husband described him as a loud mouth bully, a yob with a microphone. Apparently this comedian attends The Pear Tree Inn every month, so if you don’t want to be heckled, I suggest you avoid this place when he is performing there. Paying guests seeking a quiet retreat hotel stay should not be subjected to such behaviour and when my husband complained to a manager in writing the response was unsatisfactory, snooty and patronising. I do not recommend this place to stay.

I enjoyed my stay at the Pear Tree Inn. The food was good and the wine was great, the staff were polite, attentive and efficient. The room was nicely furnished and absolutely spotless and a lovely place to spend the evening. The bed was very comfortable and both bed and bathroom linen were of a very good quality. The only thing which was somewhat disappointing was the shower, which lacked much pressure. Personal preference would have been to have had no bath, the sides were a little high and a dedicated walk in shower. This said, it was very clean and the shampoo and shower wash were very nice. There is a good selection of quality tea and coffee in the room, with fresh milk and water being provided. The only thing which I found disappointing was the WiFi. The signal kept dropping and there is little O2 mobile signal. I see the rest of the village is or has fibre installed, the Pear Tree should invest in a good WiFi network and fibre connection if available. That small irritation aside, the Pear Tree should be top of everyone’s list of looking for food and or accommodation in the area.
