Portreath Bakery Lanner — Restaurant in England

Horrific runaround of an experience. We spoke to Marion and came to their factory/ “restaurant”, as advertised online as well as by her. Once arrived, we found a sad, almost completely empty storefront, no restaurant (turns out they leased it to a trampoline jump park company!) and most importantly absolutely nothing gluten free, nor anything cooked for my gluten-eating husband. A few stale looking cream puffs do not a “full bakery/ diner/ restaurant” make.

After being given the runaround by the male employee working there, who was too busy chatting on the phone to acknowledge us for 10 minutes, then told us to wait while he finished his chat, we were sent away with “all we have is frozen food, nothing else”.

I am so incredibly disappointed, and cannot believe the waste of an afternoon to get to this place, especially considering that the owner, Marion, had every opportunity on Facebook messenger and via email to tell me the truth and tell me that they don’t have the restaurant anymore, nor do anything other than frozen...

This was Saturday 6th September literally drove down Fri night back Sunday morning. Lived in that neck of the woods for 25 years, we still support local. Popped in on friends, asked if lanner bakery do frozen pasties, we went straight up there. They were still frozen 5 hours later. As perfect as ever, trying to savour them. 40 minutes GM 5/6, hey presto dinner 🍽. Pepper is to taste. Plenty of filling & the meat, is lovely & tender, we also eat the crust. This was a phone call & off the cuff, parking 2/3...

We came here specifically to get cakes for the whole family, because we have some gluten free people. We were told that there was nothing gluten free left and that the sweet option they usually have is a meringue. To be honest, for somewhere that advertises catering for gluten free, only offering a meringue and then running out by 1pm is pretty disappointing.

However cakes are yummy and the staff were lovely. Just frustrating that we had to then go home without catering...
