I was expecting Lynn's Raven cafe, the one I grew up with. Instead I was greeted with a different layout and a "renovated" room. I walked up to the counter un-fazed by the new layout and "decor", ready to order my Gutbuster™ only to be asked what I meant. I was taken aback in horror when the cashier asked what I meant. I reiterated that I want a big breakfast, the cashier reassures me that I want the Mega Breakfast™. I agree in my dazed stupor. I return to my plastic tarp topped table with my order number and await eagerly. The kitchen porter screams my order from the top of his lungs and rushes over to my waving hand. A tad disappointed as what was presented to me was far less than the Gutbuster™ but more expensive. Less food and no mushrooms, but "rest assured" the kitchen porter said, "the mushrooms are gonna be out in a sec mate". I thought this a bit strange. And even stranger when he returned holding our cutlery by the wrong end. Shortly after, the head chef came up to me personally with a plastic pot of microwaved mushrooms grunting to me," where'd you want these mushrooms?", "Here yeah?" As he threw the soggy mushrooms onto my plate before I could respond. A bit flabbergasted I continued with my meal. The bacon was tough. The eggs over done. The black pudding was rubbery. Fried bread was steeped in oil. Felt ill on the ride home. Bring back Lynn. 1/5 stars, would...
Read moreA massive improvement on previous owner/management. Food always seems to be spot on, the staff are lovely and always engage in conversation. Only downside is they close at 3pm, apart from a Thursday for biker night. I stopped here at 14:50 and was told everything was off so went next door instead. Although the raven is little dearer than the midway, I personally prefer the Raven as the quality and customer service in general is better. A teatime opening through the week would be advantageous especially as they offer HGV parking, not the end of the world but if you choose to park here and get here after 3pm like most drivers will, you’re forced to use the surrounding establishments if you want food, drink or facilities. Overall I’ll continue to use and recommend but there is room for...
Read morePicked this place from Google maps on a whim looking for biker friendly cafes. It's a popular bikers haunt, but we were the only 2 bikers in there when we arrived. I had the mega breakfast 3 sausage 3 bacon 2 eggs plus all the usual trimmings and a brew for £12. It was pretty good, very nice bacon in particular the sausages could have been a bit better quality, but you can't have everything can you? The Mrs had the carvery and praised the lamb in particular. Staff were really good throughout our visit. It looks like the bikers/truckers cafe that it is, so the decor is basic, but it's clean and clearly popular with a lot of people quite a few families in when we were there. Would definitely eat here again if...
