Amended section! Answer to Motel Response! Firstly you refunded £60 per room...correct! FACT Expedia did not refund anything as you had offered to do so.. FACT. RE- coffee and Tea, you did not advise us that we could ask for more, bearing in mind your Bar did not open til 4pm and no one on reception. FACT.
At time of booking which was a number of weeks before our stay, you were serving food as was advertised on expedia, you told us on our arrival that you had only updated expedia one week previous to our stay. FACT.
I spoke to a few other Guests also staying at your motel who shared the same disappointments as us, so maybe when they add their Feedback too you will see I'm not alone with this opinion. FACT.
I also read the previous review which you state to look at, and like me she also won't be staying at your Motel again, she also stated about it not being like the reviews. FACT
My Review! We chose this Motel for the fact it advertised food and a Bar, we booked 4 nights. Having arrived on the Sunday at 4:10pm as it was advised that you can't check in to your room until 4pm, we paid and collected our key. We then asked what time dinner was to be served and was then shocked to find out that dinner finished at 4pm. I then asked what time Bar is open til, we were told we could only drink til 6pm as they had a private event on in the evening and we could only enter Bar if we purchased a ticket. The Bar is only open between 4pm and 9pm, we chose not to use it after being told we had to purchase a ticket on the Sunday despite paying to stay at this motel. As if this wasn't shocking enough we were then advised they only serve food from Wednesday to Sunday, this meant we had to find another Restaurant where we could eat and drink. The sign board at front of Hotel stated they serve food every day, clearly false advertising. We were then shown to our rooms and advised towels would be changed on Tuesday and bedding on Wednesday, Room was tidy and clean although bedroom radiator was not great but the electric towel rail in bathroom was okay although not enough to heat bedroom. Bed is very firm so if like me you suffer with Fibromyalgia, these beds are not good for you. could do with a bigger size quilt for 2 people.
Shower cubicle was clean but shower head needed a good scrub. Water was lovely & hot which was nice, but definitely suggest you bring shampoo and wash soap with you.
No Net curtain or blind only heavy curtain, this meant enable for privacy you had to keep the big curtains closed at all times during stay.
The coffee and milk sachets weren't replaced until Tuesday meaning we had to go buy our own, we also had to travel enable to have breakfast which made it inconvenient due to having to take Meds I needed to eat first. We never saw any staff walking around the premises nor was there any Staff on day we left,we were just told on day 1 that when we leave we were to put keys in box on wall..
I did complain and we were given a part refund, but I would not recommend this motel, I suggest you do a little more research as there is far better places to stay at in York.
It's about a 10 min walk to park & Ride, there are also 2 really lovely pubs in Poppleton and a lovely cafe with a owner.
We were advised that this place used to be really good but unfortunately is now under new management.
This motel is on a busy main road, the traffic is loud and at times sounds like its right outside bedroom door, this not only makes it difficult to get to sleep but also wakes you quite early in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIn its favour, the staff are lovely but the food was very very poor and general cleanliness was tired and scruffy. Our first dinner was dreadful, the burger was so badly cook and hard that I wouldn't be surprised if it had been frozen after being left over from another meal and then just dipped in oil. It really was rock hard and tasted of just grease. Supposed to be served in a brioche roll, sadly that was not fresh and wasn't warm or toasted. Morning saw sour milk served with a cup of tea so all the little floaters were not very nice to see. I ordered sausage, bacon, tomatoes and toast for my breakfast, the brown toast I ordered was rock hard, and not a sign of colour and certainly not hot. The butter was solid and there wasn't enough heat in the toast to soften it. Bacon, tomatoes and toast the following morning, toast would have done a wonderful job tiling the roof as again it was rock solid and cold. The milk was fresher! The room itself was basic, nothing outstanding but also very grimy in the bathroom and lots of limescale on the taps and around the base of the tiled shower unti. Really does need a good degunge, same as the ladies public toilet which had an overflowing rubbish bin on the Thursday monring and even more so on the Friday! Toilet seat loose and lopsided and the shelf behid the cistern was liting up from the wall, Wallpaper coming off the wall abover the radiator in the bedroom, possibly due to heat but it was also torn so perhaps a previous guest had ripped it? Again needs sprucing up. One thing which was really off putting was the full dishes by the front entrance which were overflowing with cigarette ends. Windows should also be cleaned and along the back pathway to the rooms, may I suggest emptying the flowerpots which were overflowing in some with cigarette butts again. We paid for 2 nights, but on the 2 day no one had been into the room so there was no milk or refill teabags, no emptying of the bin or cleaning of the bathroom. It was a long walk to the bar and there was no phone in the room to contact the staff to ask for milk or tea etc. Would have thought a telephone would have been in the room. It could be a really nice place to stay but until the basic cleaning is carried out and ensuring the rooms are to a standard to warrant the price, personally I wouldn't stay there again. Having worked in catering and hospitality for over 50 years, sadly I have to say that this is the shabbiest of places I have stayed in. I wish the staff all the best but would advise getting someone from another hotel to come and assess your standard and hopefully you will be able to see through their eyes what you are...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy wife made a telephone booking for a family group of 15 as a birthday treat for me, a Sunday carvery. That booking was made in August, the table was booked for Sunday October 27th at 2pm. When we turned up, we were told that they had no record of any booking for our group and could not accommodate us for over an hour. We had travelled from York, Scarborough, Ripon and Easingwold to meet for this occasion, so to be told, in a disinterested manner that we couldn't be served was very upsetting and annoying. We were then told, after several protests that their sister establishment in Haxby would be able to accommodate us, but only with a standard menu, not carvery, which is what everyone wanted. Reluctantly we went to the Cottage Inn at Haxby, which had staffing issues, the wait was almost an hour for what was disappointing food. After speaking to the manager, my wife and I were offered a free carvery at the Red Lion in the future. Everyone in our group agreed that after this awful experience we will not be returning to either establishment, nor will we be recommending them to anyone else. It is sad that I wasn't able to share a positive review, we didn't get to enjoy the food that has been given good reviews, which, after poor service from the previous owners, we were all so looking forward to returning. Our agreed opinion is that the booking system requires urgent attention, as well as the front of...
