The White Horse Upper Poppleton — Restaurant in England

I came to the area to meet with my family and the venue we chose for a meal was the White Horse in Poppleton.

I cannot understate how fantastic this place is as both a pub and an eatery - an absolute must-visit if you find yourself in Poppleton. And if you don’t find yourself here, you should. It’s lovely!

Starting with the pint - there was a great selection of beers ranging from your staple lagers to local craft. Always a great thing to have the choice. The prices per pint are standard for the area. On my visit, I tried a White Rat pale ale from Ossett brewery - which was a great pint.

Secondly, the food. If you are a fan of high-quality local dishes, I would say you are hard-pressed to find better. A highlight for me was the Beef & Ale Shortcrust pie - which was just stellar. Served alongside delicious roasted seasonal veg and triple-cooked handmade chips which were just unreal. If you give the white horse a visit, you MUST try the chips.

Overall, a great place for a meal and a good pint. Atmosphere was a lovely warm pub with a good mixture of locals and holidaygoers.

Would not let us eat our sisters birthday cake, Said they would lose out on desert orders even though we were looking at the desert menu at the time, We were a party of 18 just about to order deserts and a drink, Meals where very good and excellent customer service but what a shame about the cake policy don't think we will be returning so sorry.

Thank you so much for your reply, I saw you talking to one of our party but did not no what you conversions was about, We were looking at the desert menu and deciding what we would like when we were informed about your policy , All I can say is we have been to lots of public houses around the York area for family parties and never had a issues with having our birthday cake at their venue's, We honestly was about to order deserts and stay for one more drink, I am very sorry about your policy and don't put a birthday cake in the same categories as you excuse for not letting us have ower own birthday cake, Whish you all the best for...

Just been here for Sunday roast. Booked a table at 2pm. Table wasn’t available till 2:10 as the party before were in no rush to leave. How it goes, not to worry. Then sat ages and had to ask for a menu. Eventually ordered and we were finally served at 3:20pm!! My 5 year old daughter and 2 year old nephew were passed themselves with hunger. One waitress (long brown hair) was running around trying her best but the other two were clearly work shy! Bar staff were grand as drinks orders arrived quickly. Food was nice but if we hadn’t ordered extra veg it wouldn’t have been worth the money. Spending nearly £18 on a beef dinner I would have hoped for more than one slice of meat as well!
