This a a very friendly pub, with excellent food and drink in a nice location next to the River Wear. We were a party of four, with 2 dogs. One of our party is disabled, so we were able to use a convenient disabled parking space, and make our way into the pub using the ramps for the wheelchair. It is very dog friendly and even includes a doggy menu, although we did not take advantage of this. The food and service was excellent, and the pub also boasts a good selection of ales. The portion sizes were very generous and we were able to get a doggy bag to take the remaining portions back home with us. It's nice to enjoy such a nice establishment like this.

Hubby & I went for lunch for the first time at the Rose Teee Inn. It is the most welcoming pub we have been to, & spot on for customer service. It was busy & a bustling atmosphere. I had the cheesy pasta with brocoli and garlic bread and extra got a side salad that was lovely and crisp. The cheese pasta was nice but the sauce could be thickened up a bit. Large portions too. My hubby had the prawn ciabatta. Half pint of hobgoblin gold, half diet coke & pint diet coke. Cost £33.85 Toilets very clean Large car park Wheelchair friendly in part of the pub. Seems dog friendly. Kid friendly, there were a few youngsters.

A lovely pub, we had a great meal - though I've never had mushy peas on a Sunday dinner before! Really good portion sizes. Staff were lovely but we were left waiting at times, the pub wasn't full so this was unexpected. We weren't asked for a second drink and we had to go and pay rather than the bill coming to us. Overall the restaurant was nice and clean, we didn't go through into the bar. Would go back again just for the raspberry cheesecake!

I didn't think I'd ever write a negative review about the Rose Tree, been going here for years and always recommend it.

However, tonight's visit rings alarm bells. We will return for drinks as the waiting staff are lovely, but would not recommend the food.

The waiting staff did offer drinks on the house and also took 2 meals off our bill, which was a nice gesture. This was appreciated, the waiting staff are 5, the food unfortunately is 2.

The chef's were apparently new and getting to grips with things, this maybe explains why food arrived at our table at 8.30 after sitting down to that table at 7.30 - that is understandable. But new chefs aren't an excuse for how bad the food was, shouldn't they be bringing something new, not something worse? Today's visit screamed of either cost cutting, overun chefs, or just badly prepared food.

Portion sizes have decreased, understandably if they were reduced slightly, with the cost of living, ingredient prices are up, but portions have almost halfed in size.

If half sized portions weren't bad enough, food quality had gone down too. The chips here used to be home cut and tasted amazing, now they taste like frozen french fries. (Apologies if this is wrong and they were fresh, but they didn't taste it).

My chicken parmo was okay at best, but another guests was clearly burnt - why even serve this? Cook it again! It is bad that it wouldn't be a surprise if this was a pre-prepared breaded chicken breast. (Again, apologies if this is wrong...but the food shouldn't taste like something that can be prepared from supermarkets at home).

Two people complained about the lasagne, the waiting staff informed us the chefs showed them the lasagne as though nothing was wrong with it. Two people, from separate tables, had similar feedback that it was not good.

Why is the chef not listening and coming to the tables to apologize and take feedback first hand? Rather than being defensive and relying on the lovely front of house staff to take the flack? Even if it was one fussy customer, apologize. Two customers at separate tables, making the same complaint? Something is wrong with your cooking.

A sizzler came out so hot that it burnt the vegetables on it.... That's just basic, surface too hot = burnt food. Come on...

The staff did offer to replace all the food, but given other tables had also complained, we didn't feel like waiting any longer for the same quality food to come back out.

Menu prices have also gone up, the last twice we didn't mind this as the meals were really good (The Chinese vegetable curry special a few weeks ago was amazing), likely this was another chef? Not sure. Cost of ingredients has gone up, businesses are there to make money, menu prices have to go up. But don't put out worse quality food at the same time.

I would recommend here for drinks, the atmosphere is lovely, the serving staff are friendly. If the food on the table next to me looks good - maybe things have improved, and I'll give it another go.

Can I recommend traveling to get food here? Not any more - drinks only, and tip the lovely bar staff.

On our next visit, if other tables food looks improved, I'll happily amend this review, as the pub certainly didn't...

5 stars across food, service and atmosphere, but a total rating of 4⭐️? Go figure OK so the food was lovely. Daughter had lasagne which was obviously scratch made. No frozen rectangular dish here, absolutely delicious. I had the steak ale pie, again scratch made. Beautiful pieces of meat, pastry just right, the ale taste coming out of the pie was awesome. Amazing. Decent prices, lovely pub. However. Dropping a star for...... The chips. Dropping a star for the chips? Absolutely I am. Because hopefully the chef, or the owners are good enough to receive a lill criticism and ask the question. Why has this customer dropped a point for our chips. Let's cook up some chips and see what's what. I've no doubt I'll be back in at some point in the future. Hopefully ticking the box that's got the...

We are regular visitors to the Rose Tree eating here at least twice a month but mainly for Sunday lunch which I would highly recommend. Today we visited for a late lunch and we both decided on the cod and chips but my fish was a thin piece of cod that was over cooked making the fish very chewy. At £50 for 2 lots of fish and chips and 2 chardonnays, it was very poor value for money. In future we will stick to Sunday lunch. Very disappointing, should have had a burger. I was asked if the food was ok and they offered a new piece of fish but we were half way through our meal. My wife’s was ok but her piece of fish was twice the thickness and therefore didn’t...
