Sorry. But no .
Drinks - 4 stars - not bad at all , we enjoyed it at the bar . Have a look the penicillin cocktail ( should be strong but not unpleasant)
Atmosphere - excellent. Love the design , the music , the vibe , the location , the smell , and the details .
Bar service , excellent.
Table Service - ok Nothing special considering the price range. I'd expect better service for this price range . Bringing the value for money down .
FOOD
Starter - We had : Carpaccio - meat ok , was MISSING ELEMENT COMES WITHOUT ANY Type OF BREAD . Which is fine if you want to push the bread as a side order, but no one did . So after I received it, I had to wait another 4 minutes for 4 slices of cold bread and the missing element from carpaccio . ( Naturally, carpaccio should come with bread, and if it doesn't, DO NOT forget to ask the guest if it would like some )
Goats cheese beetroot starter : Goat's cheese flavour was very subtle, not in a good way . The whole dish is the type of dish you get for £9 in any decent gastro pub . Nothing interesting at all . Basic dish.
Then we had the Wagyu burger . 1st of all, it was not hot enough. Cold . We love wagyu, and we order it every time we get a chance . This was THE WORST WAGYU BURGER we have ever had BY FAR . A lump of dull flavoured meat . There is not much to comment on it , except the horrible shape and nothingness in flavour .
After the burger we were left with no cutlery and received them after we have received our main dishes.
Sirloin Steak : The quality of meat is good . Steak was cold @45-50°C Cooking temp was almost there but not right ( I'd expect PERFECT from a bar and GRILL venue ) Was a 7 or 8 oz steak from which about 1.5 to 1.7oz was fat . Garnish doesn't count as for £26 you get 6.6oz of meat and a handfull of watercress . Which would be, of course ok, if the service , temperature , and experience preceeding the steak would be on point .
Chips are not homemade tripple cooked chips , just the 9mm bought in , soulless. At least have them as an option . Is a shame not having a homemade chip in this venue . Would at least give that steak some company as it is lonely and quite sad .
Hake with fennel and bisque : ... just a basic dish executed at boutique hotel standards or a Good Pub standard.
At this point our drink were finished for over 10 minutes, and no one asked if we'd like another drink until almost 15 minutes after finishing our drinks .
The kitchen staff looked really tired, just leaning all over the place, and looking empty inside . Food was sitting on the table without any heat lamps. The kitchen was the only piece of puzzle , from the whole atmosphere picture, which didn't fit . No vibe or life at all . They were just staring in the emptiness
Conclusion. If you really don't care about budget , culinary experience and you really don't mind about service quality, temperature of your food (nothing was hot enoughor close) , if you are not pretentious, if you don't have expectations at all , visit this venue and you'll be just fine.
Just not for us . Between my wife and myself, we have 25 years of experience in The Hospitality and Gastronomy Industry.
Best wishes , We hope you will manage to fix those issues as it is in the best of interests for this...
Read moreBucolic location from the Swiss Soho House of galleries (i.e opening everywhere....). Rather smug uber Boden floaty locals thrilled something they think so chic has landed their way. Young wait staff quite charming, managerial staff snippy and oh so special. I rocked up at the terrace with my dog (as mentioned in my booking email) for my table under the canopy as requested. The young woman standing there, who I assumed could seat me instead directed me indoors to the 'reception'. I took one step in the door and a manager/maitre d' in a blue button down stopped dead in his tracks as if I had smacked him across the face - and said a little too closely for comfort 'you can't come in here' not can I help you, or sorry but you... just "YOU CANT COME IN HERE" (exactly like that including the raised voice). One wonders then how someone with a dog and a booking gets seated. Of course i'm not the type to back down in face of such poorly judged processes compounded with rudeness so told him exactly why I was in there and why he or someone else would assist. Begrudgingly he did, I even managed to force an apology from him between his gritted teeth, of which I told him I was most appreciative. All this to get the end of a shared table and drop £150 on a non-alcholic lunch for 3. The food mediocre, a bit hit (gazpacho) and mostly miss - fish very overcooked, accompanying veg over (re) heated all sprinkled prettily with local (?) wild flowers. Rather dark chicken shop meets Soho Farmhouse bathrooms interior decor when you do get to step further inside...(why is Soho House the de facto reference for everything - yawn...). I’d only go back to peruse the art and if you have a dog I definitely wouldn't bother they will fundamentally dislike you. Quick back to Italy please.... Update 14/7 - Roth Bar and Grill very kindly reached out to me on reading this and seem most concerned about my experience, wanting to emphasize they welcome dogs (outside) and perhaps need to work on their greeting/hosting procedures. I think it would be very welcome and hope they do, perhaps like most things in life a second chance should be...
Read moreOverall, an ok experience, but didn’t feel it delivered against the cost. The wagu beef burger. Here’s my personal thoughts on it. It was stacked too high, so it couldn’t be eaten as a burger, it was toppled onto the plate, eaten with a knife and fork. A burger should be handheld and eaten mouthful by mouthful, and eat bite should contain an element of each of the component ingredients. The cheese was tasty but too small a portion to bring a full compliment to the overall burger experience. Same with the bacon, tasty, well cooked, but only a small slice. So the ratio of cheese and bacon to meat with incorrect. The bun. Brioche. Ok, always much debate but again I’d say, for me personally, it brought too much sweetness to the burger. Regarding the actual burger. It had a decent flavour but we felt it lacked enough seasoning. Although cooked medium, and had a light pink middle, it was dry. My personal opinion is a burger should have a degree of juicy wetness. Perhaps an addition of a different piece of the animal to bring a certain amount of fat into play. The ice cream was tasty. The ginger drink was ok but did it deliver a £5...
