Lovely friendly, cheerful and attentive staff. We ended up here accidentally as the pub we were going to for food was being refurbed! The food is cheap and cheerful. It's exactly what you pay for. Vegetarian choices are severely limited. Sharing the starters, we had garlic ciabatta, onion rings and nachos between us. Honestly we can say we've NEVER had onion rings like THAT! Deep fried batter rings with tiny pieces of chopped onion that were indistinguishable from the mushy batter. The garlic bread and nachos were just what you would expect. We then had big plate specials - one curry - chicken tikka with pilau rice, chips, onion bhaji, naan bread, mango chutney and a poppadum - it was huge, overflowing the plate! New Yorker chicken - lots of chicken fillets wrapped in bacon and smothered with BBQ sauce with peas, fries, coleslaw, more onion rings (unfortunately) and a grilled tomato. An Asian burger - Chinese spiced vegetable and lentil patty in a bun with salad and a side of fries not the best veggie burger, but also not the worst, these chains offer. There really was so much food on the plates that we couldn't manage a dessert. The best part of the evening was a friend finding that she had a discount voucher and the whole thing - with 2 large glasses of wine and a Fanta - came to £30.25! If you're looking for cheap pub grub, in a clean environment with lovely staff then this is ideal - bring a...
Read moreThe Rowden arms is a hungry horse pub with a busy atmosphere from families and locals alike. The pub boasts a large TV for footy and sports as well as a well maintained pool table and some fruit machines too for the gambler in all of us.
The staff were pleasant and attentive as well as efficient with their service, compliments to the chef team for this too, the food was out quickly after our order on the Greene King app, piping hot and it was to the quality you expect from a large chain pub, not the world's most special food but what you order is what you get. I however would recommend against the cheesy sharer, for what you get it's rather limited and not worth the £8.69 pricetag for the low quality camembert, overly sweet chutney, and the minimal dipping breads. However two mains for £11.49 was great value, we had a lasagne and the chicken parmigiana (extra £2) which satisfied us both price and taste wise.
To summarize, orders came out quickly, drinks were almost instant after ordering, food was good, the pub was fairly well presented, and be cautious with the car park, very tight squeeze...
Read moreGood food at a great price. Mac and Cheese is good, although the portion is a little small so may be worth ordering two. Steak and ale pie is also very nice, and is the perfect size to fill up on. As a hungry horse it really is great value for money no matter what you order, would also recommend burgers and steaks from past visits.
Staff were great, tables were cleaned quickly after people left and very friendly when bringing food out.
Particularly impressed by the lad working on the bar, after a slightly older gentleman was becoming disgruntled at the card machine donation option, even though it was being clearly explained as optional and simply to press accept or cancel, proceeding to swear at the staff member. Very well mannered and handled it with professionalism, didn't retaliate and kept his cool.
One thing that could possibly be improved would be to have more than one member of staff at the bar, (especially on a bank holiday) as there was maybe a 5 minute queue throughout the visit at the bar.
Overall a great pub, great food and...
