Was looking for a restaurant for dinner while on my way to Snowdonia when I found the saffron cottage and with the amazing reviews I thought I found a jewel. The place has great decor and a really unique welcoming concept where you are seated in a lounge area where you order your drinks and food. Once the food is ready, you are then escorted to your table. The servers and the host are very polite.
That's where the good part ends. Cue the food we ordered. A kebab platter of Seekh Kebab, mughlai chicken kebab, tava chicken kebab and chicken tikka. Scallops on a skewer Monkfish tikka
The food was horrendous!! And I don't use this term lightly. The seekh kebab was decent but nothing to write home about. The same can be said about the chicken tikka. The tava chicken kebabs and mughlai chicken kebabs were so dry that I needed an entire bottle of water to wash them down. The scallops were over cooked and really rubbery. It was like eating chewing gum. The monkfish tikka was greasy as it seemed like it had a batter on it and was deep fried. I was really hungry so I ate most of the food as I couldnt be bothered to complain and wait for more food.
I'm so glad I didn't order any mains as it was quite painful with the starters.
All in all, a very disappointing experience and I would not recommend this restaurant. This is NOT what Indian food...
Read moreI had heard good reports about this restaurant and thought I would try it, but I was extremely disappointed. Their staff were not welcoming or friendly, they just sat us at our table then disappeared. We had to wait for our menus, and I was shocked at the lack of vegetarian options. It took ages for them to take our order and when the gentleman did turn up and I tried to ask him questions concerning the vegetarian options he did not seem at all bothered to answer them and made me feel rushed and as if I was wasting his time.
We had to then wait for our starters, and the main course took over an hour after the starters to reach us. The restaurant was not even that busy. By this stage we were all beginning to get quite fed up. Upon receiving our meals I found mine to be very bland and had to leave most of it and mainly just ate the chips and rice. The other three members of the party did not enjoy theirs either.
The prices were also on the high side which I would have not minded paying if the service was of a higher standard.
When leaving they did not even say thank you or good bye. However the restaurant is very clean and tidy with a nice interior.
I will not be going there again and would not...
Read moreMe and my partner visited this restaurant on valentine's evening after reading some fantastic reviews. Unfortunately our experience was quite different.
They could clearly not handle the demand of the busy evening, we arrived in time but we're left standing in the doorway for 10 minutes. After this we were sat on a couch and the lady that took our drink orders was clueless. We tried to explain that we had a table booked but she did not understand. So we were left sat on this couch whilst our booked table sat empty for 40 minutes.
Eventually we were sat at our table, the poppadoms and chutney's were the best part of the meal, the mains and sides were not bad but very bland. Service was very slow and inattentive, it seemed like our food was rushed out it was chaos.
The final bill was reasonable apart from a 12.5% service charge! None of the employees had earned a tip so I guess they have to add this on or they would never get tipped!
Overall a bad experience that nearly ruined our valentine's evening. Will be trying one of the other Indian restaurants next...
