Nice little fish and chip shop with a very comfortable, couched waiting area and friendly staff. When I visited they were waiting on chips so there was quite a number of people using this waiting area! However, I was informed of this straight away and in a very apologetic way. Eventually my food did arrive, after quite a long wait, and was packaged in a good quality cardboard box to take away. But when we opened this to enjoy our food, we were quite disappointed. It wasn't the chips, they were good. And it wasn't our mushy peas which were creamy and tasty. Unfortunately, it was the fish. To be totally fair, it was well cooked and tasty. But it was small. In fact it looked very suspiciously like half a standard fillet. And unfortunately for us, not the fat half at that. Very sorry, we were happy with everything else, although the initial wait was a tad excessive, but if I pay for a fillet of fish, I expect a fillet of fish, not half a fillet. Speaking as a visitor to the area, Salt Fish and Chips seemed very popular given the number of people in there, so the locals are obviously fans. But serve half a fillet in my home Yorkshire and you'd struggle to survive. And this is a shame for Salt Fish and Chips, because with everything else pretty good, a good size fillet and this would be a great fish and chip shop.

After a long, but stunning, train journey up from Manchester to attend a memorial for my dad, I stopped off at Seascale just to sample the fish and chips at Salt fish and chips after reading the reviews online I often visited Seascale with my dad before he passed away and we'd buy fish and chips and sit on the bench overlooking the sea taking in the view and wondering at the beauty of the coastline The haddock and chips are the best fish and chips I've sampled, and I've tucked into a fair few chippy teas over the years with my dad! Being Friday tea time it was busy and there was a wait but it was well worth it, the service was spot on, my brother and his family popped in the following day and they were also impressed with the quality of the food. Theres a small restaurant where you can eat in, however, why sit in when you have a stunning view at the sea front. If you're in the area do call in, support the local business and take in the views, you won't be disappointed

Friendly staff were chatty and happy to help. Chips were lovely and the small cod was battered perfectly. No excess. Just crispy coating. The butcher's sausage was really nice too. Sitting on the grass or one of the many benches overlooking the beach is exactly how fish and chips should be enjoyed! Would definitely recommend this as a standard treat when you visit the beach or the kids play area. The large car park is free to use and the whole area, though very dog friendly, is very clean and tidy. Plenty of bins, nearby shop for bucket and spades etc. Right in a coastal path that is a nice walk or cycle and gives some nice sea views. Can see across to the Isle of Man at the right time of day. The chip shop looks soon to be joined by an ice cream parlor on the corner and once this is stated up and once the chippy get their in-store tables set up and ready to use this will be a lovely place to sit and eat in.

Below average at best.

I understand the place is not long opened but the service is incredibly slow as the guy behind the counter was faffing about with a pea fritter for 10 minutes instead of getting orders out.

The queue was massive because of the slow service and nothing was ready that anyone wanted to order… well unless you want a steak pie as there was about 10 of those but who orders a steak pie from a chippy, right?

I had a regular haddock and a regular chips with curry sauce. The fish was overpriced and the batter wasn’t the traditional crispy chippy batter you would get normally elsewhere. One piece of fish for £7.40 and that’s without chips btw, those were another £3.20 and they were limp and soggy.

Then there was the £1.90 for a large curry sauce that was in a tiny tub and was so thick you couldn’t pour it over anything…

Maybe in time this place will improve and I understand seascale doesn’t have anything but a Co-op so everyone is losing their mind over the fact there’s now a chippy but in all honesty… it’s not worth the half hour wait.

I’m giving it two stars for atmosphere as most people were bored out of their mind watching the staff look completely lost behind the counter.

Give it 2-3 months and maybe this place will get up to speed but just like everywhere else takeaway wise in this area… it’s...

There is a menu in the seated bit but NOWHERE does it say where to order. We were not the only ones. A simple ‘order at the counter’ would do. We counted at least six other people asking the same question, this can’t be news to you

How dare you call us liars. This was a totally honest review. 5 star reviews have been left for other places who deserve it. My wife is neurodivergent and doesn’t lie.

Your disgusting response shows the kind of person you are and has upset her greatly The comment about letting people know where to order was constructive. It seems like you have table service when you do not

The wait WAS 40 minutes. The long waits are mentioned in other reviews

And you are a disgrace to speak to anyone like that, regardless of their review. You have got plenty of great reviews, ours doesn’t matter to you in the grand scheme of things

But I assure you it was 100% honest. ‘One of those people’? You’re an online bully. We didn’t like your chips. Grow up.

Edit We also have proof via text messages (my wife was sat outside) how long it took to get the food as we were texting throughout. Other people have also commented on this long wait on Google and Trip Advisor. It was not a lie. And if, as a retail business owner, you first response is to call people a liar then that says more about you than...

Firstly, this is a very confusing place. There are two doors; one to a seated area (with a bar menu) and one to the takeaway. Except there is no clue as to how to order or be served in the restaurant. It isn't a takeaway with tables but has a bar. A small sign telling the customer how to order would be helpful as we weren't the only ones without a clue. After working out we needed to join the take away queue it took 40 minutes to get our small order. It was obvious they were serving locals before tourists. A chippy is supposed to be fast food! Never known anything like the wait. High end restaurants serve your food quicker! I wish I could say it was worth it but the chips were chewy, peas weren't the best. I have given 1 star for my wife's battered sausage.

Update This was a constructive and honest review and did not deserve the aggressive and insulting response.

I named a shop assistant as his service (on 2 occasions) was awful. No please or thank you and he threw the money at us (some fell on the floor and he didn't apologise). Not the first comment about him.

Please note I gave the B and B we stayed in 5 stars. Excellent customer service. Not impolite or abusive. If you can't take a negative review treat your customers with respect and be polite and you won't get one.

To review; to give a critical...
