We came in after a considerable absence, being local, ordered sardines mussels, followed by a special plaice pictured and a surf and turf , the starters came albeit deep fried sardines which was audible as the only other tables were eating, mussels were over cooked without flavour no cream , the bread delivered to accompany it was end of cut yesterdays at best stale bread, the waitress appeared “ alright guys , great “ walked away, my partner raised her hand and it was the chef who sent the waitress back to collect the offering of bread , asked for a replacement warmed bread it reappeared after the starters were consumed , the starters were cleared and immediately replaced with our main courses , “ special’ whole plaice crammed on a small plate with undressed salad and fries a slight lemon wedge , no plate for bones and no finesse, the surf and turf , asked for medium rare and got medium to medium well with reheated frozen shell on prawns again with undressed salad leaves and fries dumped on the plate , what’s happened ``”Sam” , usually a receptacle of fries dressed leaves would appear, the whole fish also normally would look great, deep fried sardines, come on ? And cream less mussels ! I ask you what’s gone wrong , had we not been hungry we would probably have returned the lot 5. , staff no level of customer service apart from the long haired gentleman , no check backs just a level of assumption , aptly stated by your waitress “ alright guys, great enjoy”? Without eye to eye contact , what was once a special place , is not too us anymore , will try the Rashleigh Arms next time, they seemed to be busy with a more professional approach

Truly excellent fish restaurant, they also do meat and pizzas but our reason for visiting was fish and we weren't disappointed. The starters were fish soup (which was very tasty), soft shell crab (which got an ok) and sardines (which were plentiful and excellent). For mains there were mussels (described as very succulent and tasty), more sardines and in my case the sardines provencal which was magnificent. The restaurant has great views across the bay as it fronts onto the beach. On the downside the parking is up the hill and gets very busy in the summer and it wasn't a cheap meal but we felt worth it. Service was efficient if a little distant. Will happily revisit. Visited again and the food was once again excellent. Dishes not reviewed last time were the delicious home made smoked mackerel pate; the scallop starter which I am told by my American visitor was as good as she's ever had; a brilliant pizza off the specials board with scallops, black pudding, anchovies and asparagus. Finally the seafood linguine was awesome and rather large. Will definitely return

There are very few places I review where I would say "you have to go there" but this is one. Found by chance on Google so we drove over on a whim. We didn't have a booking but the lovely staff squeezed us in before the evening reservations. What a fabulous experience for our parent's wedding anniversary. Beautiful location, perfect sun setting through the window and that was before we ate! I love the concept of the place, the great surroundings and the brilliant staff. What is very American is that feeling that you are a special guest, not just another customer. The food was excellent, really excellent. We had a sharing fish tro to start and sardines. All was lovely. Mains were plaice, sardines, sea bass and a lobster surf and turf. Again, all excellent and very much enjoyed. Our lobster fan and resident carribean chef was particularly impressed and very happy. Finished off with a sunset walk on the beach. Perfect. If we lived in this area we would be regulars. If we are back in Cornwall this will be a definite return trip. Thank you.

Not worth visiting. A typical tourist trap. Visit once and regret it. Untrained staff and over expensive food but it doesn't matter because the mugs will be going home soon and more will soon follow with their money, once.

OK you want specifics ... here you go

Waitress didn't speak enough English to be able to understand our drinks order without going away and returning for clarification 3 x times.

Table position by the door not only caused aggravation by being knocked by everyone entering or leaving but was a positive fire risk.

Starter of soft-shell crab was a single crab - nigardly to say the least in my opinion.

Starter of charcuterie without any form of bread - see 3 above.

Disposable serviettes are normally provided at a rate of one per person not two between a table of six.

In a restaurant which serves maìnly fish it was a complete surprise to the server to discover that there were such things as fish knives and, of course, none were available.

We ordered a Pinot blush but were served a normal Pinot. The server's reaction when this was pointed out was "Oh do you want me to change it then?"

It was my wife's birthday treat and was made a great...

Disappointing Experience

We had high hopes for this restaurant and originally tried to book for my birthday, but it was fully booked, so we came three days later. Unfortunately, the experience didn’t live up to expectations.

When we arrived, we were surprised to find that the menu was different from the one advertised online—not only were the options different, but the prices were also noticeably higher.

I ordered the seafood tagliatelle, but after a few bites, I noticed small square pieces that looked like meat. I asked my partner to try it, and we were shocked to realise it was bacon—despite the menu listing all ingredients and not mentioning any meat. As a pescatarian, I had to send it back. The staff remade the dish without bacon, but no one brought new cutlery, so I had to ask for it, which made me feel like I was being difficult despite the error not being mine.

While the waitstaff were polite throughout, I was disappointed that the full bill remained unchanged—there was no gesture of goodwill such as a free drink or a small discount off the bill for the mix-up.

It’s a shame, as we were really looking forward to the evening, but sadly we left feeling...
