Some visits are better than others. Depending if Paul is there. Staff are always friendly and helpful.
Food can be a little hit and miss .. on a visit several weeks ago I decided to include dessert with my carvery, oh dear what a disaster, it wasn't busy but no chef to carve meat and put veg on plates for 30mins, people then began to be allowed up for food, there were several ahead of us. We did get our meal, it was acceptable not great. After finishing lunch we sat and sat and sat but no dessert so finally after being in Scalby Manor for 2hrs 45mins we left.. Will never again include dessert and can't advise this to be a good option. On departure a member of staff was sitting outside the main door with her own packed lunch I passed comment, saying to her, you've got the right idea, your food is guaranteed.
After a few weeks we decided to return, what a difference, restrictions mostly lifted by this time, no lengthy, unreasonable wait to go for food, we got well sliced and ample meats, vegetables were all cooked to perfection, a 5* meal
The next visit was another "let's forget it" told on arrival, no potatoes, the general comment from diners was, a carvery with no potatoes !!!! Not good .... but what food was available was OK apart from cauliflower cheese, so undercooked it should have been not in cheese sauce but vinegar and the carrots which hadn't seen boiling water for long.
Most recent visit was Tues 30/11/21 meat was certainly NOT plentiful it was actually quite amusing to watch the chef, while attempting to slice the meat ultra thin, verging on see through, he did his very best to ensure full slices, sadly he failed, so meat was bitty and certainly not enough. There was barely any bubble and squeak, what was there was so dried up it was all bits, the rest was OK but not very warm.
I must say that all these visits have taken place on a Tuesday when Paul has been absent. With Paul in house it is a totally different experience. Had I been asked to review Scalby Manor while Paul was in attendance I would without doubt have...
Read moreI would like to start off by giving high commendation and praise to the staff at Scalby Manor. The service was impeccable as staff were warm and welcoming, making sure we were happy with our seating (table for 2) and making sure we had everything we needed for our meals. Great customer service.
I ordered a Dirty Philly burger with an appletiser and my partner ordered a Carvery with pigs In blankets. My partner was very pleased with the carvery stating that the mint sauce went perfect with the sliced turkey and that the vegetables were fresh and satisfying. The pigs in blanket had a lovely snappy bite with bacon cooked to a slight salty crisp. Delicious.
I was happy with the portion sizes however, there was a few things to note with the Philly burger. The meat patties in the burger were slightly rubbery and dry without much of the anticipated beef flavour, crumbling into smaller pieces suggesting lower quality patties. The cheese in the burger was not very noticeable lacking the trademark notes of the nutty and earthy tastes. The buns were nice and fluffy, the lettuce, tomato and onion were lovely and fresh. The chips were slightly crisp on the outside with it being soft and pillowy on the inside. Lovely chips. Together, it was a slightly less than average burger but I was starving and...

Lovely setting and views towards Scarborough Castle and the hills when outside.
I've since been back and a lot easier this time over vegetarian food. I was handed a bleeper to collect my nut roast to take to the Carvery for my veggies etc. All well labelled for veggies.
Vegetarian (see above re 2nd visit) - I had to work hard with the bar staff to find out what I could have, the carvery was vegetables only, or you could order another meal to go with it such as a vegetarian burger. Err, who wants two meals? The staff at the carvery were clear that the Yorkshire pudding, onion gravy etc were vegetarian (and what was gluten free). Plenty of choice, but could have done with some good seasoning. Much better second visit.
Price - very reasonable for a mid week lunch.
Accessibility - mixed, if you can't manage the steps to the main Restaurant and Carvery, you'd have to go back outside and then in and the same for the loo, or have someone choose what your going to eat.
Car Park (free) - parking spaces for the disabled near the entrance and drop off point.
Staff - friendly and helpful
Toilets - up short staircase, if you can't manage the stairs you need to go outside and back in. Radar key needed for the...
