We visited The Old Scalby Mill during a few days away in Scarborough North Bay. It was a very pleasant 15/20 mins walk along the prom from our accommodation & is situated in a lovely spot at the end of the prom just past the Sea life Centre. The pub is lovely, spotlessly clean & has a real warm & cosy feel to it. We met the owner & staff who really were fab, it was almost like meeting up with old friends. It was a beautiful early evening when we visited so we decided to sit outside & in doing so, we met a couple of the regulars, who were equally as welcoming. We hope to try the food next time we're in North Bay as the menu sounded lovely, we'd definitely recommend to friends & family & will make sure to revisit T O S M next time we're in the area. Update, back in the area 2yrs later, had a few drinks & a bite to eat. Awesome service, lovely pub & super friendly staff + chips, just like the ones my mum made when growing up, what could be better!

We, as a family of 6, decided to call in at The Old Scalby Mill to get some lunch and a drink. There was a small queue out the door, but nothing too bad. When we got to the bar, we asked if they had seating inside for 6 ( plenty of available seating outside but it was rather blowy ), and although they were full inside, they managed to accommodate us. The food was all prepared to order ( I assume the jacket spuds were already cooked ) and was top quality. I had the ba on cheese burger, which was probably the best burger I've ever had. It was a proper handmade burger, and there was no excess fat on the bacon. The onion rings were massive, bigger than my sons hand, in fact. All in all, it was a great lunch experience. Everyone enjoyed their food, and there were clean plates all around.

Fantastic fish and chips at reasonable prices. Beer and drinks are also reasonable not like elsewhere. Dog friendly but it's the owners that are the issue, saw an excited spaniel just up at someone else's table, paws on top. Luckily they weren't eating but not nice for anyone who's dog it isn't or not keen on dogs. Not the pubs fault but owners. Bit of a tight squeeze between some tables, nice view across the bay by large window if lucky enough to get the table there. Tables in conservatory and outside. Friendly and cheerful staff. Paid parking is not cheap or reasonable. See photo. 1 hour - not long enough to eat or 3 hour parking.- probably too long just to eat.

Unfortunately we will not be going back here, we called in for a drink a while ago and thought it would be a nice place for a spot of lunch. After a long walk this afternoon we thought we would try it. We ordered some food at the bar and said we would sit inside near the window looking out to the sea. I paid whilst my wife sat down. The restaurant was grotty with uncollected plates from previous peoples meals. Tables had not been wiped, ours had dried on what looked like tomato sauce. Other tables had food on them, which showed that the plates had been collected but the tables not wiped. I ordered a jacket potato with tuna mayo, and my wife prawn baguette with Maria rose sauce. The potato was a nice size and cooked well, but the tuna mayo was tasteless very watery. Whilst my wife's baguette was proper rock hard, with again watery prawns which tasted like they had just been defrosted, no butter or the slimmest amount of sauce. Both came with a side salad consisting of lettuce onion and tomato. I don't suppose you can go wrong with sliced lettuce. To top it off my cutlery upon unwrapping from the napkin looked like it had been used by someone else then mistakenly rewrapped without being washed. Granted it was swapped when I asked at the bar for a replacement. This was the only communication we had with any members of the staff. We didn't see anyone to explain our thoughts because no one came near after delivering our meals. Upon us leaving a group of around 8 came in, I did actually feel like saying to them to not order anything as its not very good, but didn't. I'm not sure if the place is under new management, one thing is for sure it needs to be, the whole place looks very very tired, unclean and run down, which is a shame because it could be a lot lot better. We won't...

Very over crowded and dirty environment. Staff where unfriendly and frazzled. We left as fast as we arrvied.

Edit: Amazing response. Why would I lie about my experience? Its not malicious, just saying how it was. The tiny bar to get served is right opposite the door ways and I physically got separated from my partner and children with how crowded it was, I had to go around through the doors to get back to my kids as other customers shoved between us.. The girl who served us (we only ordered 2 drinks to go for the kids) was very young and looked terrified of us barely whispering the options when we inquired what kids drinks where avilable. We were not rude despite the wait to be served, seperatipn or our experince in the dining area (the table was dirty but the only available one, my partner moved previously used dishes to one end but the table needed wiping down which I did with wetwipes from my child's bag but it was still not ideal, then another patron had his chair so far out my parner who is slim build could not fit into his seat) then the menu was not family friendly and it was so loud we decided we would find somewhere else to eat as we where uncomfortable. It was extremely busy and both of the staff we encountered did seem frazzled. That's not saying they where bad or did anyhting wrong. Again just saying what I experienced.

Rude owner and ignorant reponse to boot really does yourselves credit. I will absolutely tell people to avoid based purely off of your...

We came here first but they didn’t have enough space so we went for a lovely walk around the sea life centre first we all was very hungry after including my 6 yr old daughter

We arrived and we was seated we was sat waiting for an hour before and we had to prompt the staff to take our order after another customer came in seemed to be a regular and was seated and served instantly we waited another lengthy time before having to prompt the staff again as to when our food was coming they kept saying sorry but kept forgetting stuff he brought out for the 4 adult meals forgetting my 6yr meals leave her sat with nothing till I got up to ask him where it was then realised after I was missing half of my meal to the staff member that brought our cutlery had dirty hands and looked very scruffy for serving

We was made to feel very unwelcome the whole time we heard the word sorry so many times to our self’s and other customers it was unreal I would say the food was ok and most definitely made up for the poor front of house service I would not recommend going hear unless you proper to wait a long time with poor service I have been to many places and never felt I have had to leave any review but this has to be the worst such a shame when location is stunning I would take the extra to find somewhere else

COVID 19 is a very big risk here as there is no cleaning being done between customer and no proper ppe was being used at all

The managers need to...
