Made me pay for my lunch before eating it. Cost £15. Them the wife wanted a piece of cake for £1.50 and they told me I had to spend a minimum of £5 if I wanted to use my card. I didn't have cash. The manager then told me that the card companies charge them a fee for card transactions so they have to set a minimum. I tried in vain to explain to the manager that card companies, for over 2 years now, only charge a straight percentage of whatever you are buying and it was against merchant regs to set minimum transaction amounts. The manager then turned to my wife and said, I would have let you have the cake for free if your husband wasn't so rude. We don't want your cake for free. We want you to be professional business people. If two people enter your establishment and order 2 coffees for £2.40 each are you going to demand the extra 20p or are you going to insist they have a bun as well? Either they know the rules have changed and are trying to get people to spend more money or they are ignorant. If the latter then don't charge people for the order until they are finished just in case they want...

Read moreThis place has changed hands since I last went and it's a real cracker now. I went with a group of friends after a trail run on a Saturday morning and we sat out the back in the courtyard.
We all had HUGE plates of food - either cake or a breakfast sandwich - and they were all delicious. The coffee was spot on too - a much underestimated quality. Too many bitter americanos around.
Finally we chatted to one of the owners and she was friendly and welcoming. Great place for groups of runners and cyclists I'd say, as well as those just looking for a nice coffee and a bite to eat...
