I visited this pub yesterday (Saturday 26th March 2022) ad witnessed something really bizarre. Two lads (young, around 16-20 at a guess) were contesting the prices from the menu which apparently did not tally with the prices being charged at the till. The landlady (I assume, because she had the authority to kick them out - complete overreaction) got really flustered, blamed them for holding up the queue (when it was her till/menu that was causing the delay) then kicked them out and barred them. She really lost control of her temper. If she is an experienced pub landlady, she will have seen all sorts so should easily have been able to handle two teens! They were not being rude. One was asking a lot of questions but he was trying to make sense of why they were being overcharged. I admired them, I would not have had the guts to stick up for myself at that age! She could have called for more staff to help the queue (we were paying by cash so they could have rung this through later). She could have asked them to modify their tone, if she thought they were being disrespectful (they weren't). She could have owned the mistake and apologised. She did none of these things, no attempt to defuse. Complete loss of control. Bad customer service, I found it embarrassing and not representative of the friendly Cranborne people! I will not...
Read moreA rare country pub, with traditional food.
The Sheaf of Arrows is certainly a pub for local folk. Having said that, a warm welcome and smiles are freely given upon entry.
In a day of of pubs offering more up market menus, it was refreshing to see traditional pub food. Cajun beef was my choice for this evening, which was delightfully presented. Taste wise, I felt it was missing a bit of oomf, a tad more spice and sauce would of been appreciated. Having said that, the value was certainly unbeatable.
The menu as a whole, offerers a wide variety of dishes, although could be considered limiting for vegetarians. If youâre vegan, Iâd say your choice is even more limited.
What does make for a welcome change is the ability to bring pets in. This may not be for everyone, but itâs lovely to see our 4 legged friends being allowed in.
The drinks menu, offers a great variety of local ales and a relatively broad choice of wines. The Sixpenny Gold is a personal favourite of mine.
Cranborne is a relatively affluent area and offers a great choice of pubs or restaurants. There really is something for everyone.
The decor of the pub is clean, although some of the furniture felt a bit tired. A lick of varnish...
Read moreSo we have been coming in here alot lately and really liked it. But today changed that.. Burger night, we went in, barman said he couldn't take food order until 7.30, it was 6 o clock, we thought ok, that's fine we'll have some drinks. 7pm we order more drinks and ask about food, barman then says "I can't guarantee you'll get food tonight " you'll have to wait until 7.30. Sat had another drink, 7.20, he walked by us several times didn't update us. Everyone else going to bar ordering food, getting food. So we left. As much as we love that pub, we are now not going back. And considering the new pub in the village is opening next week it wasn't a good way to ensure loyalty đ¤
