In response to a comment from ‘Bren’. Firstly, your pregnant wife was not refused access to the toilet, but calmly explained to that it was for the use of tea room customers as in compliance with COVID 19 guidelines, Helen and Lee have a track and trace system in place and go above and beyond in doing their upmost to keep all of their visitors safe in these challenging times. Anybody with a slither of intelligence would understand totally the responsibility that these two hard working people have and are doing everything possible to ensure that. You must have completely forgotten to add in your review that said ‘heavily pregnant’ wife was allowed to use the toilet and didn’t have to resort to the measures of ‘urinating anywhere ‘ as she is pregnant, thank goodness for small mercies! But also, I would like to say thankyou to you and heavily pregnant wife on raising this issue as you have, very successfully made everyone very aware that shearwater lake tea rooms upholds a very high standard of protecting their customers during this time, so well done Helen, Lee and all the staff, not only are you all doing amazing, your food is delicious! Keep up the...
Read moreUnfortunately after our visit yesterday this once lovely family run tearoom has gone from 5 Star to a 1 Star.
We didn't realise until we arrived that this business has gone from being run by a really nice couple to now being owned by the Longleat Estate which in itself wouldn't have made a difference, however, in being taken over they have raised prices to quite frankly ridiculous levels.
£4.95 for a small slice of cake that didn't even look homemade like it used to be, £5.50 for two small bottles of Pepsi and a single bag of crisps for £1.65!
There is simply no reason for these huge increases in prices other than simple greed.
If the four of us had ordered a coffee each and a (small) slither of cake our bill would've came to nearly £35 which is ridiculous.
Ingredients such as flour, eggs and butter etc have not increased in cost to such an extent to justify it and wages for the staff most certainly haven't.
Luckily for us we noticed the food prices prior to ordering so instead of being completely ripped off we only got stung for the overpriced drinks and we went elsewhere for a snack.

Read moreNot as good as expected, cold morning and ice still covering the lake. We decided to go for coffee, and fancied a scone. Well scones come as part of a cream tea one pot of tea 2 scones jam and clotted cream &7.50, but they were happy to exchange the tea for a coffee, all good we thought, one americano and one latte later out come the scones, warmed. So far so good, they were plain scones but barely, and I mean barely baked, they fell apart on touching. Bland, but the jam and cream were both nice. Once home we looked at the receipt and somehow it had cost £11.90, now I'm not a mathematician but taking 7.50 away means one coffee was £4.90, even allowing for the 70p difference from a cup of tea to an americano that would make the latte £4.20, which I know it wasn't. Overall coffee was adequate but scones very poor and overcharged for it all......not a good experience and beware if you wander from their menu you will pay for it. Won't be doing a...
