I usually donât like to leave poor reviews, but my visit here yesterday evening was shocking. My guest from overseas wanted to visit an English pub and Iâve been wanting to try the Shrewsbury Arms for a while so we decided to go here.
The original girl who was serving us was lovely and helpful but her shift must have ended as we didnât see her (or anybody else) again after our food arrived.
The food was ok. My partners steak was a bit too rare on one half. My friendâs stroganoff had some really nice bits of pork in it, but she couldnât finish it as it also had some really poor cuts of pork in most of it. My fish and chips were fine, I liked it. My son had a kids meal and even though we were charged full price, we never received his dessert.
On top of not receiving my sonâs dessert, what was really shocking is the abysmal customer service here.
This is hands down one of the most unfriendly pubs I have ever been to.
My son was unfortunately sick and I was on the ground scrubbing the carpet with my own cleaning products that I brought from home in case of an emergency. Good thing I had them. Not once did any member of staff ask if I or my son was ok, if I needed anything, or if there was anything they could do to help. I had to just take their napkins off the serving desk as nobody offered anything and I ran out of my own that I brought and use my own anti bac wipes to to clean the mess. My partner had to take everything to the bathroom to dispose of it there.
I have no problem cleaning up after my son, I always do wherever I go as I donât think itâs polite to leave a mess, but instead of leaving a mother on her hands and knees in the middle of a pub dining room, the staff could have offered ANYTHING to helpâ cleaning supplies, a bin, anything???
I felt embarrassed and extremely unwelcomed. The staff had no problem walking past and staring at us. The place only had a couple customers so there was no way we werenât seen nor were they too busy to have an opportunity to be courteous or offer help.
Safe to say, I will never come here again and I will not be recommending it to anybody else. Definitely not family friendly, or even friendly. I wish we had gone else ware as there are many lovely pubs and places to eat in the area that are much friendlier and...
Read moreThe Shrewsbury Arms is a dining experience that can only be described as a blend of Gordon Ramsayâs fiery perfectionism, Jamie Oliverâs rustic charm, and a dash of Heston Blumenthal's mad genius. If youâre looking for a Sunday dinner that will make you question why your own roast at home even exists, then this is the place for you.
Iâve also had the pie â with the star of the show⌠This isnât just any pie. This is the pie that other pies whisper about in awe. It's as if the culinary gods themselves descended from the heavens, handed the chef a golden rolling pin, and said, "Make the pie to end all pies." The crust is so flaky that when you cut into it, a gentle breeze seems to waft from it, as if the pie itself has sighed in contentment. The filling? Oh, the filling. Itâs a meaty, gravy-laden masterpiece that could bring a tear to Ramsay's eye, though he'd never admit it. Imagine a perfect balance of savoury goodness, seasoned with herbs that were probably plucked by woodland elves at dawn.
And the Sunday dinnerâdon't even get me started. The roast beef is so tender that even Jamie Oliver would pause his incessant "pukka" exclamations to quietly weep into his Yorkshire pudding. Speaking of which, the Yorkshire puds are like fluffy clouds, expertly engineered to soak up the rivers of gravy that flow like the Amazon across your plate. I wouldn't be surprised if Heston Blumenthal had a hand in the chemistry behind these pudsâtheyâre that scientifically perfect.
The vegetables are so fresh and vibrant, they could probably win a beauty contest against some supermodels. The potatoesâcrispy on the outside, soft on the insideâare so moreish that they might actually be addictive. I found myself eating more than my fair share, and I have no regrets.
In short, if you ever find yourself within a hundred-mile radius of the Shrewsbury Arms, drop everything and make your way there immediately. Your taste buds will thank you, your waistline might not, and your own cooking will never seem quite...
Read moreWe booked a table for 8 people on a Sunday. On arrival we were shown to our table. No one asked us if we would like any drinks so we ordered directly from the bar. We waited nearly an hour before having to ask a passing waitress if we could order as she had just taken another tables order - they had arrived after us. It was over an hour before our meals came out. Everything was very hot, dry and looked and tasted like it had been sat under a heat lamp for quite a while. One meal was forgotten and we had to ask for this. This arrived looking much fresher than the other meals. We then waited a long time for the table to be cleared and a dessert menu was offered. As this was a special occasion we ordered dessert and waited another half an hour for this to arrive - by this time the pub was nearly empty. The waitress practically threw plate after plate for us to sort out onto the end of the table in front of our 3 year old. We had to ask for cutlery. And again we had to order drinks from the bar - which wasnât easy as there was no one staffing this area, when someone did come out I just asked for tap water as I thought this would be the quickest option. On leaving and paying for our meal you could see all the staff had left or leaving.
We will not be visiting again despite having several nice meals in the past. I have emailed the pub directly as I wanted to give them this feedback however I have not had any response in over a week. I do understand Sundays are a busy day however I would expect to see adequate staffing levels...
