As well as being a fantastic pub, the Chester Fields is a top notch wedding venue.
From start to finish the Chester Fields team were just fantastic for our wedding. We can't say enough good things about Aimee, who was so understanding and comforting throughout all our planning during COVID. After having to move our date, we wanted somewhere that could be flexible to any unforeseen changes COVID might throw at us, and Aimee and the team were just fantastic at providing the confidence that no matter what day we might have, they would make it the best they could and also support us by not expecting the full hire price if, for example, only 30 people could attend.
The actual venue is stunning, a lovely barn conversion in the Cheshire countryside. The pricing structure is so achievable, relying on guest minimum spend to make the whole thing affordable for couples, but without sacrificing attention to detail. The food was just unreal - we are vegan and requested all food to be vegan and the chef designed a beautiful menu that we still dream about. Aimee even sourced vegan wines for us which we were so grateful for - and it was never too much trouble.
In terms of decoration, we already thought the venue looks stunning but we added a few decor elements and the team presented them beautifully.
We can highly recommend opting for the evening pizzas - their new pizza oven in the garden was such a great touch and went down very well soaking up our guests evening drinks! My only regret is not asking for one to take away!
The venue is such a good size, with a seated meal space that feels small enough to be intimate but can actually fit a large number of people. The dance floor was the perfect size to feel full, even with just a few people on it, but still big enough for all our guests to boogie.
My husband and I saw a lot of venues (especially having to plan 3 times!!), and we are so pleased we came across the Chester Fields. It has something a bit more special than the classic venues in hotels, but still with the expertise of a talented team to make your day a reality. Nothing was too much trouble, and being able to celebrate our wedding somewhere we can go back time and time again for meals and drinks and breakfasts to relive all the memories just makes it even better.
Thank you to the team for making our day...
Read moreI was excited to have lunch here after not visiting for years but unfortunately it is not what it used to be. The service was great, our server was friendly and served us fast which was great as we didn't have a lot of time and we were starving. We ordered a selection of the starters and sharing plates, all but one were almost inedible. Me and my partner can't remember ever having a meal this bad, it did not feel like eating food prepared by a trained chef or food that has been taste tested before. The price was extortionate, for £8.95 you get 6 extremely weedy stems of asparagus with a giant slop of 'hollandaise' which tasted more like a badly made unseasoned cheese sauce with absolutely no hint of lemon, and then topped with more cheese - it was disgusting. 'Triple' cooked chips were barely once cooked, koftas were overcooked and tasteless with a tiny amount of raita and desperately in need of something like pomegranate molasses to give some depth, soup was awful with no taste and the whitebait was not enjoyable with only a tiny sprinkle of paprika so no flavour other than very fishy and not as crispy as you would hope. The sesame pork bites were really good, and after sharing my concerns with our server I learned these were from the old menu and the rest a new menu, hopefully they go back to the old menu or take more care over what they're doing now because it was a really terrible meal. Our bill was just under £50 (just one soft drink and one beer besides the food) which made it feel so much worse that it was so bad, for that price we could have had a really amazing meal at countless other places. It's a shame as the location of Chester fields is great, the service is great, the decor is nice and the food used to...
Read moreAverage Sunday roast with ok service. Arrived for the booking, whilst waiting the first drink took over 10 minutes to arrive. Having been forgotten about, when it did arrive no apology was given for the length of wait.
Server didn’t introduce herself, coming across very disinterested and unfriendly. We asked for more time to decide and she didn’t seem happy.
We orders 2 starters, they were okay. No table check was taken by waitress. When our plates were taken away, again she didn’t check if we wanted any other drinks. One of our drinks had been sat finished for over 10 minutes. In the end we went to the bar to order more.
We ordered two beef dinners for main. Upon ordering them initially we asked if they came pink, for which the server confirmed they did. When they arrived they were not pink, suggesting they’d been left under the pass for a substantial amount of time. Roast potatoes were cold and hard. The rest of the food was good, the only thing that stood out specifically were the pigs in blankets. The waitress did table check us this time, however it was 30 seconds after our mains had been served. Therefore not an adequate time for a customer to check whether their food is actually ok.
When we finished she took the plates away again like starters without a final check. We said no to desserts, and eventually went up to the bar to pay because the waitress disappeared.
When we left, the same waitress was the only member of staff around, she looked at us as we left and never even bothered to say bye.
Overall a good meal, however service needs serious improvements. Both myself and my partner work in hospitality. If the waiting on staff give off the impression they’re not interested, then people will not...
