We booked a table at 6 30pm 10 days ago, ordered mains, waitress came back saying one of our mains had run out so we needed to choose a different one. Ordered drinks, 2 of the soft drinks looked the same, and she offered them both as the same drink. Pointed out that they should be different, she had no idea which was which, we were left to taste them and work it out. Mains arrived and one dish had 2 items missing, by the time they arrived we'd nearly finished our meals. Eventually they came with a menu for desserts having asked 3 times, 30 minutes later I had to look for a member of staff to take our order, ordered desserts, and straight away told one dish was off the menu, so two of us had to choose something else. Main dinner plàtes left on the table, 20 minutes later the waitress came back saying another dessert was also off the menu, 2 further choices later my friend gave up on a dessert choice. All around was chaos, food being sent back on other tables, the table next to us the rest of the family had eaten their food before the last plate arrived. So many options where being told where not available, but not as menus were given but as orders being placed meaning last minute having to choose something else. When our bill arrived so much was wrong, 2 course Christmas menu being charged, plus a desert when it wasn't our fault that the menu wasn't available, they also said we couldn't split the bill but each item had to be paid separately not in an equal split. The manager was nowhere to be seen, she had left it all to the young waitress to deal with. Shocking behaviour for a manager.
We were booked for breakfast too having spent the night in the Premier Inn, Staff wearing Christmas jumpers meant we didn't know who was a guest or staff, complete lack of plates, cutlery, bread for toasting, continental breakfast items not being replaced for 20 to 30 minutes one girl of around 16 was asked 6 times for a plate for toast and she just kept saying plates are over there. Except they weren't any other there that's why we were asking. None of the guest knew who to ask. Tables were waiting for so many things it was a comedy of errors both Saturday and Sunday. We were asked if we wanted a coffee as soon as we sat down, 1 and a half hours later they came and asked if we'd like a coffee. Why not have a machine like every other Premier Inn I've stayed in around the country. Only good thing about the breakfast was at least the hot food was hot as made to order, but not buffet style or asked if we might like anything else. I wouldn't eat here again.
Would give Zero stars if it...
Read moreAs we arrived our first impressions of the place seemed very good on the outside, but wasn't the case on the inside. After waiting what felt like years we got seated in what seemed like a run down conservatory that needed a dang good clean or perhaps KNOCKING DOWN!?
We were told by one of the staff "You know what to do" as we replied "No, not really?" as this was our first time eating here. When sat down we noticed immediately that the tables were sticky, the walls were sticky, the floor was even sticker. I BEG to wonder what wasn't STICKY in there.
Once the food arrived, it was very dry (surprised that even the food wasn't STICKY too!?), whilst eating the food we uncovered something very SHOCKING. A green chip (deadly) as can be seen in the photo provided.
We asked for some Peppercorn & Diane sauce to go with our steaks and the waitress said that it'll be no more than a 'few minutes'... HALF AN HOUR LATER! still no sign of my Peppercorn & Diane sauce. Multiple times the waitresses walked past us and ignored us and certainly never asked how the food was which I found very rude and poor customer service. We finished and left before the Peppercorn & Diane sauce could ever get out.
As we were leaving we decided to make a friendly complaint before it managed to get to the online reviews (and well you can tell how that went due to me making this review right now), the manager thought it was all directed at her which it was not, got very defensive, which also shows me that she cannot take criticism. Started to argue back and we were very shocked by this.
The food and customer service was very subpar, it was not up to other Brewers Fayre's high quality and standards that I'm used to. My family and I were even told that we were BANNED for LIFE, just by making some constructive feedback. This has left us very distraught and emotions are now running high.
Wanted to rush out as soon as possible however, the beeswax coated floor would not allow us to, almost like I was chained up to the bar with how STICKY It was. They probably are beekeepers in the back ready for the next coat (which is very over done) surprised with how much beeswax they can even store back there!
Moral of the story is that it felt like a dystopian prison with prison food and with a sticky coating not even prisoners from Alcatraz can escape from that mess. Prisons should implement this well designed escape prevention technique.
Shame, looks nice on the outside....
Read moreMonday 17th December we visited this restaurant on 2 occasions. Firstly, we just checked in to the Premier Inn nextdoor, where we were staying the night, then we popped in here for a drink and to reserve a table for dinner later that evening.
We ordered a pint of Butcombe £3.79 and a pint of Carling £3.59.
Later on we returned here for dinner, we went to the bar to get some drinks to find that both real ales were finished, we were informed that they would not be back on till the morning. Found it a bit strange that both ales were available when we were there earlier. Basically they could not be bothered to clean the lines and change the barrels. Ridiculous a bar with no draught ale.
The lady behind the bar was suffering with a really bad cold and was coughing and spluttering everywhere, also spitting into a tissue, not once did she wash her hands, she should not have been working anywhere near food or drink.
We were shown to our table and we just sat there and waited for someone to take our order. After a while we realised that orders were taken at the bar, so went there to order our food, gammon, eggs and chips and a Festive burger, reiterated when ordering that it was a Festive burger and not the Christmas one.
When our food was served it was the Christmas burger that was served, which was the wrong one. The waitress said she would sort it and wanted to take the gammon away as well, asked for it to be left on the table as it would just under a hot plate in the kitchen, the eggs looked as if they had already been sitting around for a while.
It was rather obvious when the burger was brought back to the table that it was the original burger with the piece of turkey and sausage removed and the brie and cranberry sauce added.(festive burger had 1 patty while Christmas burger had 2 - each time there were 2 patties).
This is the only bar/restaurant that is near the Premier Inn, that does not require driving, a captive market.
It was also apparent that there were insufficient staff on to provide an acceptable level of service.
Overall, poor service, average food, poor hygiene standards and a general sense that the staff did not really give a toss about the customer. No surprise, we...
