I've been meaning to stop here every time I pass. First time to what looked like a quirky lovely little cafe and bakery. Nice size car park with aesthetically pleasing cafe. Lovely place to walk the dog. I arrived about 2.30pm on Saturday. I think that was the problem. Could only order sandwich as bacon rolls on menu but not being served. Ordered focaccia sandwich coffee and brownie. I popped into the loo and it was unfortunately full of used nappies. The bins overflowing. Service was rather disjointed. I was given brownie in a paper bag even though eating in. Then. Nothing. I waited about 15 minutes for sandwich which was nicely presented and looked and tasted lovely. I then queried why no coffee had been delivered and was told I hadn't ordered any! The bill showed I hadn't been charged for it. It meant sandwich was £12.00 which does seem a lot. Coffee arrived. A grumpy woman who I think was owner appeared and kept saying to no one in particular that cafe closing. I felt so uncomfortable I tried to drink coffee quickly and wrapped up sandwich. One of the staff gave me a takeaway box and I left. I met two disgruntled customers who had encountered Mrs Grumpy Britches and said they wouldn't come back. It's a shame as I'd had a long journey and just wanted a quiet late lunch. Finished journey feeling sick from rushing coffee. I'm sure it's a timing issue after a long...
Read moreHi this is the 3rd time stopping at Sol bakery. Unfortunately only the first time we were able to get a coffee and a nice baguette. As other reviewers, I agree the staff were OK but the manager/ owner seem to be micromanaging her personal, which looks uncomfortable. But the point I want to make is ,that we actually appreciate the fact of having an independent cafe, only that the 2 other times we have tried to visit, it was closed at times it reflected it was open. The first time we thought it was unfortunate that the cafe seem to have closed for good. The last time, about 3 months later, we decided to give it another go as the website and Google says it's open. Surprise, Surprise! It was closed again. To get out of our way, on our trip to Cornwall, is really annoying. I have no idea what is going on with this place as some people seem to have left reviewes a day or two ago and others have had the same problem than us. Sol Bakery...
Read moreHaving read all the brilliant reviews we thought we would aim to stop here as it was roughly midway between our place in Surrey and our holiday in Devon. The reviews aren’t wrong - this place is a cut above the numerous Greggs and coffee shops along the route. We were so taken by the quality of the breakfast rolls that we ended up buying our lunch to take with us! And we weren’t the only only ones as we saw others do the same. Not only was the food of the highest quality but the staff were lovely and friendly and you could see the pristine kitchens where the bread is made. Not the cheapest place but worth every penny. In particular I recommend the freshly baked sausage rolls - they come in two varieties, normal and spicy. We tried both and I loved the spicy one which was infused with nduja sausage. They were hot out of the oven but I don’t have a picture as we gobbled them up before we remembered to take a photo!! Highly...
