Had the pulled pork burger and fries, after roughly an hour wait our food eventually arrived. Much to my surprise the fries were cold, burger had the smallest amount of pulled pork with the rest of it on the luke warm side of warm. The other half enjoyed her sausages and mash, though.
For dessert, I chose the Lotus Biscoff sundae which for some reason made me feel I have covid because it was so tasteless. A good half of it being 'topped off' with squirty cream.
Staff are pleasant though and interior decoration is done really quite well. Just a shame we both felt really quite cold.
On to the accomodation. I feel money is better spent elsewhere. We stayed in the accommodation at Spice Ship for a two night stay at £90 per night and although this may well be reflecting the local area rates, the rate certainly does not reflect the quality, comfort and cleanliness of the room offered. Room number 3 in question. We were first greeted by filthy tracks in the carpet leading to the room and once inside, filthy window and frames, cracked ceiling, dust matted bathroom fan, mouldy black drain plug which needs to have the cover taken off or the shower tray overflows, a TV and Freesat box but missing TV remote and batteries previously removed from the freesat controller and two blown ceiling light bulbs, A shower head full of limescale that wasn't working properly until I cleaned it myself, no non slip mat in the shower to cater for those with accessibility requirements. A really uncomfortable bed which creaks so loudly with every small movement made, dirty carpet which I'm sure hasn't seen a vacuum cleaner for quite a while. The one positive thing I can say about this room was the mixer shower. Nice and powerful. There isn't any forced ventilation in the room, not even a fan so with the busy main road next to the window those of you who are light sleepers may really struggle to get any decent sleep.
Overall, I feel quite cheated with the stay here and I don't know if we stayed at a 'bad time' for the establishment but either way I don't feel I could ever return here when compared to some of the beautiful and cheaper places available on AirBnB. The Spice Ship really needs to up their game or drop the rates, just under £200 for a two night stay is not value for money with the...
Read moreWe stayed at the spice ship for 3 nights in September 2020 and paid in full on arrival. I wished I only paid for the one night as its a very unclean & unhygienic. When we were gave our key to our room we headed off excited ready for our first break this year. Unfortunately the room was tiny and very very unclean. The shower room was minging. I complained to the manager who said he would sort it. In the meantime if we wanted to use the shower room we could use the chef's personal shower room on the landing. The pictures speak for them selves. It was disgusting. Not been cleaned for possibly months and this person is cooking your food. We had to shower at my family's up the road as it was that dirty. I could go on about this but seriously this I think is as bad as it gets and most don't even get to see this but we did. I confronted the manger and showed him the pictures but him and most of the staff didn't seem bothered. He just blamed the cleaner. We decided to eat out that evening with family. The next morning we went down stairs as breakfast was supposed to be served at 9am but the place didn't open till 9.30🤔 anyway we were only going to have a coffee and get of to Weymouth. Whilst we waited I decided to order a full breakfast to see how bad the reviews had given it as I only checked them the evening before BIG MISTAKE. Anyway the breakfast arrived and it was terrible. Burnt over cooked and very very greasey. I had to leave it, it was so bad. We had a coffee and left. We decided not to eat there again so went to the lookout for breakfast during our stay. It was fabulous and always has been. I spoke to the manager about our bill and he said he would sort something out for us. He gave us 20 quid back which didn't even cover the cost of us having to eat out for our breakfast for one morning. My family live just up the road and informed me that it's had a revamp😂 I couldn't believe it. Obviously not touched the accommodation or done anything about the food. We paid a good part of £300 for our stay at the spice ship and we feel well and truly ripped off. My advice is FIND ALTERNATIVE ACCOMMODATION and avoid...
Read moreThey cannot deal with a large party, we come here last year and had the same problem. Baring in mind, you are in between 2 large haven sites, we want to come out and support local businesses instead of eating on site constantly. The reason of booking was for a birthday meal, mine and one others birthday is on the 19/03. So ventured for a good pub meal.
One main problem, we have encountered, on both occasions, the staffs knowledge is very little. We thought to give it another go, as a year had passed. We asked the price of a roast, they didn’t know (they went off the price of the ‘other pub’). We went to the bar to ask what gins they sell, they didn’t know. And then: Allowing a drunk customer at the bar, to tell me, “you should know what you want”. You do not need your customers backing you up, due to lack of knowledge. That is really lame.
4/13 people on our table finished their dinner, 4 meals got sent back and refunded due to them literally being inedible or having the incorrect items on the plate. Adults meals came before kids meals, making the children even more agitated.
As soon as we complained about our meals, we had a group of staff gathering and gossiping about us. If you’re going to gossip and laugh at customers, don’t do it right in front of them. Especially when, if no meals were refunded, we would have had a bill of over £200 not including drinks.
Understanding that, hiring young adults, is cheap for the landlords, it would be good to give them some training as they seem to do doing their job blind. Step one is know your product, you can’t run a business, with staff unaware of what you sell or what comes on your plate.
I have a lot of respect for the manager coming over and owning the situation, I didn’t mention the staff knowledge to him as I would not want to knock their confidence, especially in front of other customers. And of course, it’s the managers responsibility to train/retrain staff if they are unsure.
Overall, not a good experience, and left hungrier then I arrived on my...
