Sadly I left this place very unimpressed after having Sunday Lunch here. Firstly, I anticipate that Roast Dinners, quite often are quite pricey with this particular one costing around £17 per dish, which I thought was quite steep, I don't even pay that for a Roast in London. Nonetheless, I thought this is going to be nice, I was very much in the mood for a roast in a cosy little pub. Ordered my drink, a very nice local Ale from Windsor & Eton Brewery and then awaited the arrival of my food. Straight away I knew something was not quite right about this. My wife was wondering where her veg was with her roast chicken which was pretty big, half a chicken as standard with chipolatas, although these poor, pale and did not taste much of pork, just very highly processed frozen chipolatas. Her side did eventually arrive and it was quite pale looking slices of carrot, peas and some other bits. Everything was also lukewarm, not hot enough. When my dish came I couldn't help but extremely disappointed. I ordered Roast Beef which was barely there. I had 2 extremely thin slices of beef with a massive bit of chewy and gelatinous fat running right through the middle of both slices. To be honest I would say I was lucky if I managed 4 small mouthfuls of meat. I had a huge yorkshire pudding that was mainly just air and very crunchy, not lovely and fluffy. The fact that it was so big was clearly on the plate to disguise the pitiful amount of food that was on the plate. I had 3 roast potatoes which were fine but not crunchy on the outside and what little veg I had with it was diced up into squares. Meaning I had a couple of squares of carrot and a couple of squares of parsnip. Barely constituting a mention on the menu as their was literally the smallest amount of veg on my plate. Lots of gravy which tasted pretty good but I could not hide my disappointment in what I was given especially for the price of it. Sadly I will avoid going back here and opt for a better roast dinner at the likes of...
Read moreNew pub we visited today, just driving along and thought we'd pop in for some lunch. Lovely beer garden.qr code to read menu and then order at the bar. Very friendly waitress who took our order, but must say a tad disappointed with the burgers we ordered. Actual burger was a lot smaller than the bun. The bun possibly frozen at some point, but not good quality disintegrated, meaning that burger couldn't be held together and fell apart. Bacon was streaky and very fatty, I couldn't even give it to my dog due to the fat. I'm sure their other plates are good, seemed busy and most plates we saw had been cleared, but I wasn't impressed, and neither was my son who is a bit of a burger connoisseur... Nice pub garden, would probably go back for a drink. I thought prices for some dishes were a little high too..example. burger and chips £15.95, halloumi ciabatta £10 95. Good. parking facilities, two car parks front and rear, didn't use any other facilities so can't comment... a shame. Thought we'd stumbled...
Read moreWe went to the Stag and Hounds on the recommendation of a friend who spoke highly of the food and presentation and were not disappointed ! For completeness, I must say I was a little puzzled by having three menus. One normal, one lunch and one specials. So much choice ! To start we shared some humus which was elegantly presented. Our server was attentive without being pushy or rushing us. In fact it helped us relax know that she was ready to help and we didn't need to fight to get attention. My wife chose the pork belly which is served on a bed of potato and cabbage with an apple dressing, very appealing visually. My Ciabatta with halloumi and salad was served on a slate (?) platter and again very attractively presented. Once we started eating, the dishes were full of flavour and very filling. Will definitely be returning ( having skipped breakfast ) soon. Finally, dogs with well behaved owners are most welcome at the...
