From the moment my wife and I entered The Stonegallows Inn in Taunton, we were met with the kind of warm hospitality that turns a simple meal into a cherished memory. Elisha greeted us with the kind of genuine, warm welcome that immediately sets a tone of comfort and hospitality. It's this initial interaction that starts the dining experience on a note of personal connection that so many places strive for but few genuinely achieve. Our recent dining experience here was nothing short of exemplary, a true testament to what a Hungry Horse establishment can offer. Dom processed our order at the bar with a friendly smile and a professional demeanor that assured us we were in good hands. Taking our order with the utmost efficiency and attention to detail, he made excellent recommendations, ensuring our selections would delight our tastebuds. For starters, the Wholetail scampi, my go-to dish, was impeccable as always. The scampi itself was succulent and flavorful, perfectly breaded and fried to a delightful crisp. Paired with just the right amount of chunky chips, the meal was a satisfying balance of textures and tastes that seafood lovers dream of. On the other side of the table, my wife's Steak and Ale Pie was a masterpiece in itself. Rich, hearty gravy enveloped tender chunks of steak, all encased in a beautifully golden pastry. The accompanying mash was light, fluffy, and the perfect vessel to savour the delicious pie filling. But what truly set our experience apart was the service provided by James, the Duty Manager. His polite and engaging manner made us feel like honoured guests rather than customers. James took the time to converse with us, ensuring that our evening was not just a meal, but a delightful dining experience. For me, personally, James' thoughtful assistance was especially appreciated. Understanding my disability, he went above and beyond, fetching cutlery and condiments so that I didn't have to. It’s this level of attentiveness that speaks volumes of the care The Stonegallows Inn takes to accommodate all guests, catering to individual needs with grace and understanding. The trio of James, Elisha and Dom, are a force to be reckoned with – they embody the essence of customer care, making The Stonegallows Inn stand out as a beacon of what a pleasurable dining experience should be. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough. Whether you're a local or passing through, treat yourself to a meal here—you won’t be disappointed.

From the moment I stepped into the Stonegallows Inn in Taunton, I knew I was in for a treat. The ambiance of the place set a welcoming tone, with its cozy setup and friendly faces. The highlight of my visit was undoubtedly the meal I ordered – the Scampi and Chips. It was nothing short of delicious. The scampi was cooked to perfection with a golden, crispy outer layer, while the inside remained succulent and full of flavor. Accompanied by the classic, crispy-on-the-outside, fluffy-on-the-inside chips, it was a match made in heaven for my taste buds. Adding to the delightful experience was the customer service, which was exceptional from start to finish. A special shout-out to the manager, James (if I'm not mistaken with the name). His attention to detail, prompt service, and warm demeanor made the meal even more enjoyable. It's rare to find someone who not only ensures that the service runs smoothly but also takes the time to make sure every guest feels valued. I left Stonegallows Inn with a full stomach and a smile on my face, thanks to the wonderful staff and the mouth-watering Scampi and Chips. I can't wait to return and try more of what they have to offer. If you find yourself in Taunton, make sure to stop by the Stonegallows Inn – it's an experience you wouldn't want to miss!

First time visiting today, very clean and tidy pub. Efficient service from polite and interested staff on duty. Meals were what you can expect and good sized with fair prices. Lots of special offers and definitely ideal for families. Separate area for adult dining will appeal greatly at certain times. Would recommend. Very pleasing. Worth a visit with summer approaching. 🤩 Sadly visited twice now in a fortnight and nearly walked out Monday lunchtime when visiting for a drink recently before school holidays, waited and waited and waited and finally got served by a very miserable member of staff, Last night Sunday 5/30 pm ish lovely warm evening, walked into the pub again on a busier evening for a drink as I live close by now and had to walk out, just zero acknowledgement from bar area pool table side, waited and waited and just left. The lovely efficient staff from my first visit do not appear to still be here and as a ‘non diner’ these chain pubs are not very accommodating sadly. Disappointed as I now live in the Galmington area.

1/4: I visited today as part of a small group, approximately 15 people, having attended a funeral at the crematorium situated less than a mile away from the pub. We were told upon arrival that we were only allowed one drink each before we had to move on, as they were too busy to serve any more than that. We were also told we couldn’t order food, even though only 6-7 people would’ve eaten. The “no food” rule even extended crisps from behind the bar. Safe to say the pub missed out on a couple hundred quid and has unfortunately somewhat spoilt what should’ve been an stress-free day for our small party. The bar staff were incredibly unhelpful and rude, and could only provide a “computer says no” response to any questions (minus the cough to the face… but even that wouldn’t have been surprising). Seeing as the pub is located so close to a crematorium you’d like to think they’d be aware of potential customers who have come directly from attending a funeral, and that this isn’t how they would usually treat customers, but from my experience today I won’t be putting my money on it.

2/4: It’s good to see The Stonegallow Inn has taken the time to respond to my criticism. In fact it’s great to see as their response is now available for all to see, and truly represents their complete lack of professionalism. The childish “but you were rude first” comment is simply untrue and most likely written by a member of staff who was present at the time, in an attempt to cover themselves for when the Area Manager visits. The venue was chosen beforehand as a place to meet for a drink, but if you need to call ahead for 6-7 warm meals then may I suggest retraining for the staff, or perhaps they need to seek a different profession. Whoever wrote and published their response to my review most definitely requires retraining, as it seems they’re unable to comprehend a customer leaving a negative review. I notice there was no mention in their response of refusing to serve crisps, considering children were present, but perhaps this isn’t covered in The Stonegallow Inn’s Excuses Handbook.

3/4: Update. The Stonegallow Inn have contacted my workplace via Facebook and have complained regarding my review. Unbelievable behaviour. The police have been contacted and a report has been made. The Area Manager is supposedly contacting me sometime today regarding this. Truly shocking.

4/4: Final update. The Area Manager has been in contact, which I am thankful, and has reassured me this incident is under investigation. The level of service we experienced, or lack thereof, is being looked into and the individual who thought it was appropriate to message my workplace is going to be dealt with. I was also informed that flowers would be sent out to the lady whose husbands funeral it had been, which is a nice touch to what has been a truly sour experience for...

We went here at around 5pm on a quiet tuesday evening, and 1st impressions were really good, it was warm, nicely decorated, clean and tidy. The barman was welcoming and professional. Then we sat down at a table that had nice clean cutlery and napkins in a cute little bucket and plenty of napkins and proper sauces in bottles instead of those horrible little sachets u normally get. Having been 2 a few Hungry Horse pubs before, we knew what the menu would be like, and this 1 didn't disappoint, lots of special offers and choice..... there unfortunately the good points stopped, we made are choices and ordered them and waited 4 our meals, I then went to the bar to order a coffee and was told they didn't have any milk, which was a pain as I was cold from the freezing weather, but I know these things happen sometimes. So ordered a cold drink . The table next to us got their order and it looked great, however we heard 1 of them tell the waitress that their eggs wasn't cooked the way they ordered. The next thing she came to our table to let me know that they didn't have any baguettes 4 my order and asked if it would b ok if I had it in a wrap instead, I wasn't happy, as I had already been let down with the milk situation, but said it was fine. I ordered the chicken club, which on the menu said it was served hot, which is how I wanted it to be. So when our order turned up my brothers steak was fine but my wrap was really cold and the chicken was Luke warm at best. I had no choice but to ask the waitress to take it back and exchange it 4 a burger as i thought that would be quicker to do, in the hope that it would be with me in a matter of 5 minutes, due to the fact they were so quiet . Unfortunately again I was let down as i waited over 10 minutes and by this time by brother had pretty much finished his meal. So I asked for it to be wrapped up so i could take it away as he had to get to work, so we couldn't wait any longer. We don't get to get together very often as he lives over an hour away from me and works full time, so when we do we like to go out and eat and relax, so this wasn't the best experience for us. It was a real shame as the front of house staff were really great, but behind the scenes really let them down. Would I go back again, maybe as I know everywhere has bad days but would I reccomend it to others, ? probably not, as I wouldn't want others to have the same experience on my...
