Stonemasons — Restaurant in England

Arrived today to charge the car on our way home as we have been before & stopped off a few months ago so we did have a drink while charging the car. So today decided to stop off again for something to eat & drink before heading home. Ordered our choice of meal. Didn't wait long to be honest but looking at my husbands meal when it was put on the table it really looked like a child's meal & not from the main menu. Hunters chicken? Looking for the bbq sauce, a table spoon if that on a very small piece of dry chicken it looked like a child's meal. I had fish & chips peas ? We both found on our plates what looked like some sort of Plastic looking pieces of something that looked like cotton. My fish was ok if i picked at it, peas cold, chips not much better. No staff asking if everything was OK with the meal. I doubt that these days Really should do better . Last time we'll stop off there & pass on to our family. And before any negative comments no we didn't complain as having heart issues I just wanted to go home. Over the last few years your service has gone from amazing, to poor, to abysmal and yesterday you plumbed a new low. So much so that my family and I will never return. Table booked for 1200, food ordered at 1210, sign advised a 30 minute wait. Customers who arrived after us served food before us. Most of the food arrived at 1310, one meal didn’t, at 1318 enquired as to when it would arrive to be told it had been forgotten (bar staffs word). The child hamburger served in a rock hard, stale toasted bun. The burger itself was dry, and tasteless. Of the two Sirloin (tough rump at best) steaks ordered neither were warm which was surprising as the medium rare was very over cooked and the medium well was incinerated. The missing curry materialised at 1328 and was of an acceptable standard. The others childs pasta was also edible. Your staff did give us free desserts by way of an apology and £13.85 off the bill. It is such a shame that over the last 16 years of living in Ilminster and eating at the Stonemasons It has come to such a pass that this has become necessary to write this to you . Being part of a Marstons franchise, I thought this place would be a good place to go with the family at the start of the summer holidays. Upon arrival, you could clearly see that the place was understaffed, no order in getting tables cleaned, and wiped down ready for new guests to sit down and look at the menu, we got told to find any table and sit down but didn't get told there was specific tables that was reserved. Didn't get told there was no mixed grill something about they had all the other steaks but no mixed grill steaks 🤔, with that being told as i was at the bar ordering a queue was forming so i rushed my decision. The food was OK but not great, quiet small portions. The burger in the picture was supposed to be a cowboy burger, I mean, depending on what context you're using, the phrase "cowboy" I guess it lives upto it's name. Chairs and other seating were dirty, ripped, and not well looked after. All around, the skirting was chipped off paint, and the toilets were disgusting. This is the kind of place you'd go for a few cheap pre drinks before going out, but I don't think I'd return...
