Stunning views from a quintessential period property where Peter Rabbit could easily peep out of at any time. Well-kept gardens with homegrown produce for sale, outdoor seating for those with dogs (not allowed inside) some tables available to the front overlooking the lake can be accessed around the far side of the building. Tall folk beware there are low beams. It's so nice to visit a restaurant that has not be 'tastefully' modernised but tastefully decorated in keeping with the build period of the property. This is NOT a cheap place to eat with an Angus beef burger at £20... We decided upon the paté with mouthwatering apple and raisin chutney, Queen olives, sundried tomatoes, bistro salad leaves, and balsamic vinegar dressing, I asked for extra bread which the chef was only too happy to provide. Jon had the sandwich of the day which he reported as very good, as Jon 'just eats food' he can't say much else! We then decided to have a cup of tea with a scone, butter, and jam outside in the garden. Huge scone with real butter and a good dollop of raspberry jam so good I had to fight off a wasp. Highly recommended. The staff were great...
Read moreWe got there about 10:30 and just missed out on breakfast so had a walk around and down to the shore line while we waited for the cafe to reopen at 11. We returned for tea and scones instead. Sitting outside in the beautiful garden but the sunny spring meant early wasp season so we retreated indoors. Fab scones and lovely tea. Decided to park there for the day and pay to launch our sailing canoe so we could return later that afternoon for a late lunch.
Tried the local artic char caught in Coniston. Partner had lamb. Amazing meal that you find hard to beat at any of the fancy hotels or fine dining restaurants in the lakes.
Only losing a star off perfection down to blasted wasps or we could have sat in the sun to eat.
I know not the restaurants fault but at least it gives me an excuse to go back for that extra star!!
It one of those places you don’t want to tell anyone about in case it gets so busy you can’t get in but they deserve...
Read moreWow, wow & more wow. The most beautiful setting for a cafe EVER!! The views were breathtaking over Coniston Water to the Coniston Old Man. Super helpful & friendly staff. They appear to grow all their own veg & salad. We both had a Ham & Cheese sandwich in delicious bread, with a gorgeous home grown salad. Chunky Ham & strong mature cheddar & Chips (someone there knows how to cook chips!!! 🩷). We ordered our food & had a walk down to Coniston water (5 mins down a track behind the cafe), the dogs had a paddle & by the time we returned our food was ready for us. This is our first visit here BUT won’t be our last. Thankyou, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Apparently they have self catering accommodation to rent too. Can’t review as didn’t go inside them but we’d love to stay there, those...
