I'm thrilled to share my fantastic experience aboard the National Trust Steam Boat at Coniston Water in the Lake District. It was an incredible day, enriched by some amazing individuals.

Our engineer, Paul, provided a fascinating introduction to the workings of the steam boat, taking us into the engineering bay. Seeing the impressive steam engine up close and being allowed to help load the boiler with wood chippings was a highlight, all thanks to Paul's generosity.

Our guide was Charlie, a volunteer whose enthusiasm and knowledge truly made the trip special. Charlie's comprehensive explanations brought the boat and its history to life. The fact that Charlie is incredibly friendly only added to the richness of the experience.

Adding to the remarkable crew was the Captain, whose name I didn't catch. Despite my lack of sailing experience, he kindly allowed me to the cockpit and even trusted me to take the wheel - an unforgettable moment!

The combination of stunning Lake District scenery, the unique charm of the steam boat, and the exceptional crew turned this trip into a lasting memory. On behalf of my mother and myself, I extend our heartfelt thanks to the team for this extraordinary experience.

The National Trust Steam Boat adventure at Coniston Water comes highly recommended from me. It's more than just a scenic tour; it's an experience to remember. This was genuinely one of the best days I've ever had, and I can't wait to do it again. Thank you for this...

This is an  amazing steam yacht and experience. The sound of water and a steam engine is perfect! This is a beautifully restored steam yacht restored by the national trust. It was built in the 1850s. The steam engine is not the original one used however I would think it is similar to the one originally used. It is great watching the people work the steam engine. The boat is quite ornate and well restored. It also has seats and furnishings that look original. It is a small but beautiful yacht. The surrounding area looks great and it's all very scenic. The workers are also enthusiasts and are very friendly. It is owned by the national trust now and it's amazing that they were able to open it to the public. It is definitely worth the money and definitely visit if you are in the area. It is a unique experience and nothing like simply taking a speedboat around a lake! And for both enthusiasts and people who are not enthusiasts it is worth a visit. It is one of my favourite attractions in the lake district and as a steam enthusiast it is a thing ticked off the list of steam powered machinery I...

Five of us took a trip on the steam boat, during September. We had pre-booked because it's quite popular. The online system was easy to use and if you are national trust members, a discounted price is available. Coniston lake is stunning and we arrived an hour earlier, to walk by the lake. There's a large car park together with a cafe, serving a variety of different dishes. We just had hot drinks. The public toilets are clean. Dogs are allowed on the boat, but not in the carpeted area. The boat staff are friendly and welcoming, providing a helping hand to get on and off. During the excursion there is a commentary, explaining the history of the boat and lake. We decided to stop off at Ruskin's House, however, we hadn't pre-booked and there were no tickets available. As we had to wait an hour for the return steam boat, we queued at the cafe for a drink. Due to being short staffed, guests could only use the tables outside. It was very busy. I would certainly recommend a...

A stunning steam yacht on Coniston which we visited on the 7th August for the first time. We opted for a full lake cruise and the onboard commentary helped picked out lots of locations and historical events. I found it marvellous to connect here with my favourite author, Arthur Ransome, who used some of the geography in his famous books, and you can see some of the film locations. A small shop is on board. The staff were excellent ambassadors for The National Trust with their customer care and service. Highly recommend a trip. We booked in advance, check the website for current requirements.
