This is real gem of a cafe in an area a bit short on watering holes. The meals are all home made from local products and are of great value . A good place to bring the kids as there is a play area for them. Tea is available in huge old type tea pots and as for the cakes , hand made huge and of superb quality. Now for the surprise in the main building of this cafe is a large and interesting museum that has on view everything from a dinky toy to a jet engine and the wreckage of a german bomber which crashed near here in WW2.. There is a small charge to visit this outstanding collection of artifacts but WOW is it worth it !! The added bonuses are Cheddar is only 8 miles away and there are several nature reserves in the area to visit free of charge. The owners Vikky and Rob will advise and direct you. Do go and visit this area you will not be ...
Read moreVery disappointed We live local and used to visit lots. Haven't been for a while and after today I don't think we will go again. The grounds are a dump. The toilet was blocked, went to another, seat wonky/falling off. Went to 3rd which was in a 70s portacabin, whole toilet moved. Would not get in there if you were bigger than size 14.
The play equipment is an accident waiting to happen. Menu very very limited. Husband had bland stew. Beans on toast were hard Scrambled egg almost white and tasteless.
It's not clean, I asked for table to be cleaned, didn't happen, could see it was dirty, could also see dust in the drinks fridge.
Water pipe directly over a plug socket as you walk in...someone needs to do allot of work to get this place to a decent standard.
Don't think it's much to ask for a clean table and...
Read moreLovely cafe with lots of space to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet of the countryside. We only had tea and cake (which was delicious). The food smelled very tasty so we'll have to return to try it. The seating is comfy and varied giving the cafe an eclectic and cosy atmosphere. Staff are friendly and very accommodating. There's a really interesting small museum that can be accessed by paying £2.50. The cafe staff will then let you in to have a look around the varied exhibits that include a new and sustainable way of producing peat, parts of a recovered WW1 plane and various old machinery and instruments. Well...
