Prices on the menu(s) on the tables out front are out of date it seems as when we paid we were charged more as the menu behind the counter states different/increased prices. The law makes it illegal for businesses to mislead you about the price of an item(s) hence the score here, while ATS choose to stick to their story rather than refund the difference (the pricing on the table menu). In addition the coffee was disappointing.

Update based upon the owners response: There is nothing is misleading in that I have said, just your menu wording/pricing vs. that you are actually charging. If the menu says toasted teacake, butter and jam for xx then one expects to be changed xx and not xx plus some. Simples! It's not the cost of 30p but the principle that you state one cost and then charge another. This is wrong and actually on the day there was no interest or offer from your establishment to refund anything. There is a similar issue with your coffee whether a mug or a cup as again the pricing differs but the menu doesn't state this. Perhaps when you hopefully learn some customer care and respect then you won't obtain...

Great little find and must visit if visiting Axbridge or Cheddar!!! We were visiting king John's hunting lodge when fell a bit hungry and stumbled upon this place. Absolutely amazing! There we were 5 of us and they managed to squeeze us in upstairs during their peak hours.. We ordered scones, sausage roll, ham sandwich, cakes and drinks which were all delicious. The ham sandwich was very decent in size as my 8 yo daughter would normally be able to finish a full sandwich herself she could only manage half here and it wasn't because of the taste! The homemade Victoria sponge as well as coffee and walnut cake were both delicious. The fresh from oven scones were so good my wife had two andy parents had one each (including some of the cakes). What is there not to like?Location and venue was excellent; service was top notch; food was great and all very...

Our whole experience with The Almshouse tea shop was great from start to finish. We did make a few specific requests and had to make a change to the date of our booking due to illness but nothing was too much trouble. The lady I dealt with was lovely, as were all the staff. The tea shop is in a gorgeous setting and there were lots of beautiful details inside that made it lovely and unique. The afternoon tea was delicious and made with very high quality ingredients. We were surprised at the variety of sandwich fillings and the home-made scones were still warm and melt in the mouth. The cakes were equally as fresh and delicious with lots of variety, the Bakewell tart was particularly outstanding. The staff were very attentive, offering to top up our tea and pack any leftovers for us. Without a doubt the best afternoon tea we...

Went to the tea shop for lunch today. Looked small at first glance and we had our dog but the ladies serving said they were dog friendly and we could take her up the stairs where there was extra seating. It was lovely and quaint and the food was fresh and top quality. They even bought treats for the dog with our lunch. The kids had cocoa art on their hot chocolate and there was crayons and stencils for them to create pictures whilst we waited for our food. Nothing was too much trouble. They were really friendly and asked about our holiday so far. Would highly recommend the scones my husband ended up having two cream teas they were so tasty.

An adorable teahouse in Axbridge serving afternoon tea alongside a regular food menu. Five of us were fortunate enough to turn up for AT on Saturday without a booking (but probably wise to reserve). The kind ladies explained the portions are generous here so three sets plus two cream tea add-ons would suffice for our group. For sandwiches, my favourite was definitely the prawn mayonnaise - very fresh! Their plain scones were warm, airy and easy to cut into; served with clotted cream & jam. Cakes are more like slices including carrot, chocolate, lemon drizzle etc. All in all, it was ~£10pp. Do visit!
