First the good points - This is a beautiful historic pub with a charming terraced sun trap garden that provides lovely views across the chimneys of the medieval town centre. I have been once before with family on a weeknight and the food was pleasant and the pub was stunning inside with low beams and fairy lights creating a cosy atmosphere. Now for the review of today's experience... We booked in online and on arrival we weren't clear where we should ask about our table (there are two entry doors) but as it was a beautiful day we picked a space in the garden. The scan here to order qr code didn't work so I went back down to order and gave our table number. Our roasts came out after about 20mins and the waitress initially put it on the neighbouring table until we stepped in and said it was ours. The young lad on the bar had apparently taken the table number down wrong. We were told our cauli cheese would be 5-10mins behind the mains, we weren't asked if we wanted sauces and we had to ask for cutlery. As our dinner was getting cold whilst we were waiting and I can appreciate that they're busy, I went back down to the bar to get these bits myself. The food itself was presented nicely, but every single part of it tasted bland. The only thing that had been seasoned was the extremely peppery potatoes. A little bit of salt during cooking would have made the world of difference to the potatoes, greens, mash and yorkies. The cauli cheese was mushy so I assume frozen, and had no real flavour, though the crumb they'd put on top was nice. My beef was medium at best but very dry, and my partner said the same for the pork. The tasty gravy was the saving grace for the dishes, though this is the first time we've left roast on the plate. Perhaps we've just been spoilt by the other Butcombe chain pubs (we are big fans of the rising sun and Ring O Bells) but we came away feeling very underwhelmed, especially given the price was the upper end of the scale. We didn't bring it up with the pub because nobody came to check how things were, we had paid at ordering and there was a queue for the bar when we had finished. If they'd offered us desserts I'd have declined on the basis of the quality...

My family and I had the pleasure of eating here on Sunday 22nd October. I had called the Lamb Inn at 2.30pm whilst we were in Paignton Zoo in the hope of a table for four that night at 6.30pm. Holding out little hope at such short notice the receptionist placed me on hold to check with her colleagues and amazing she arranged a table for us at 6.30pm.

When we arrived we were shown to our reserved table and offered a menu. We ordered an assortment of ciders, soft drinks and cocktails which promptly arrived and then ordered food.

Reading the menu it all sounded delicious but my daughter was hoping for a Sunday roast. She is a vegetable and gravy loving monster, but due to the time this was no longer being served. Seeing her disappointment I asked the staff member if it was possible to have a Sunday roast and she stunned us by saying that she would have it made especially as long as we didn't mind receiving a multitude of different vegetables instead of the ones in the menu, my daughter was over the moon.

When the food arrived it looked amazing and tasted delicious. The Sunday roast was staggering. There were mountains of vegetables, crispy potatoes, parsnips, cabbage and peas and two large thick slices of beef hidden under a huge Yorkshire pudding smothered in gravy. Then the waitress brought out a full boat of gravy just for my daughter.

Just above and beyond.

Thank you everyone working at the Lamb Inn you are all a credit to your employer. Keep up the great five star...

This is my first time here. I was on holiday with my fiancée and very good friends. Firstly, the building and ambience are absolutely lovely. Secondly, the food was good and very tasty if not a little overpriced. Thirdly, the service was excellent, made particularly possible by the young waitress who was very attentive and her customer service was second to none. She made us feel very welcome and comfortable. So, why only 3 stars? While there, we experienced the chef being very unprofessional when they screamed down the intercom at the waiting staff who were doing a wonderful job and should not have spoken to in that manner. The older waitress did apologise as she went to see how she help the screaming chef. To add insult to injury the younger waitress came back, after going to see what the chef wanted, very distressed and when my fiancée went to check she was ok, she was overwhelmed and had to go out the back. This type of behaviour from the chef should not be accepted and they should be disciplined for their behaviour. No member of staff deserves to be treated like this at work and the lovely person who served us should be praised for her work. I do hope the young waitress will be better supported while at work in future. Thank you to her and the older waitress who served us and a big thumbs down to the chef, who should...

Such a negative experience! The pub had such a lovely cozy appearance but everything else was awful. We ended up waiting 50mins for our food, which turned up warmish, yorkshire uncooked, potatoes were like powder (obviously frozen pots or reheated in micro), meat and gravy tasteless and left me feeling sick. Cabbage took up half the plate and had zero taste. 15mins later I was sick in the toilets. The waiter didn’t come up to us once to check if the food was ok or not. At the end we complained to the waiter who was very apologetic as we barely ate any of it and the manager didn’t even bother facing us just sent a message with the waiter after checking out plates with the chef that we don’t have to pay anything and we were free to leave. I only felt sorry the waiter who had to take the heat and not getting paid enough for it! Manager and chef are happy laughing behind closed doors while poor waiters pay for their mistakes. Avoid at all cost!
