This pub is next door to a camp site so was very handy for us. Unknown to us this pub says it welcomes dogs. Well there were quite a few dogs there when we arrived. (I counted 8)

The first bad encounter was in the restaurant area as we went to our table a Basset Hound that the owner hadn't controlled jumped up my wife's white trousers leaving a dirty footprint. "He wont hurt you was the owners comment, not I'm sorry!.

Our meal was duly served on stone cold plates. I said to the lad serving that the plates were cold and he just shrugged. To eat my steak all I had in the way of cuttlery was a blunt bread knife. My wife had to struggle with the lamb cutlets with a butter type similar knife. Needless to say half way through my meal the grease had set solid on the cold plate and ruined what was a decent steak when it was hot. The second dog encounter was about half way through my meal, a giant Whippet / crossed with a Great Dane type dog came from behind me and came level with the table and within 3 or 4" of my plate and looked about to grab my meal. I protested loudly to the owner of the dog (who had two this size) and they took them into the bar. Going to the loo I had to literally nervously step over and between them to pass these monsters.

If the publican invites dogs into his premises they should be controlled by the owners and allowing them into the restaurant is in my opinion unacceptable.

The cold plates and poor knives should have been put right. As we were leaving an hour or so later I asked another couple who were being served if their plates were cold. They said they were stone cold. So its just a matter of the chef / owner not being interested enough to attend to this basic point even though it was brought to his attention earlier.

The whole evening was total a disaster with dogs everywhere. 5 more dogs arrived (making 13 dogs in this small pub) together with more barking and snarling as we were leaving.

If you like dogs and like your meal surrounded by yapping growling dogs this might be the place for you. It...

I would gladly give this place 0 stars but its not an option. It was a dismal experience and the worst place I've ever stayed, radiators in the bedrooms that don't work just a heater fan that made the room warm but the minute you turned it off the room was freezing again, but we couldn't leave it on as it was awful. We closed the shutters and think black mold all down the wall, being asthmatic this was dangerous. The beds were old and uncomfortable. The bathroom had been made decent looking, yet again the radiator didn't work so it was freezing cold. Black mold on the ceiling above the shower, the shower was more of a trickle and it kept going off then coming back on scolding hot very very dangerous as no signs anywhere to warn you. The second night they had s private party downstairs, however its above a pub so we expected that, we went down the next morning for breakfast to find all the food still all over the floor it was disgusting, we did not stop for breakfast. When we arrived the owner told us the pub toilet had broken and the public would have to use the shared bathroom on the floor for residents, he stated it would be fixed in the morning, next day nothing had changed, and when we came home on the Saturday from shopping, the bathroom was filthy the bin was over flowing all over the floor, the tap to wash your hands was broken, ive never stayed anywhere as bad as this, when we found the mess all over the breakfast room floor we just packed and left. We didn't use the kettle and im glad we didn't as when we looked inside im pretty sure this would make you ill. The pat test dates were years out of...

Went to The Angel last night. The service was perfunctory, just going though the paces.

I had a falafel burger, it was one of the worst I’ve ever tasted, the one redeeming feature were the chips. But when the server did return to check the table they were so quick that there was no opportunity to say anything. No dessert menus were brought over and no one came to clear plates or ask for the bill.

Also, weirdly the place had nice wooden tables but had chosen to cover these with horrible plastic which gave a very odd impression when arriving.

They messed up the numbers for our booking but we’re fortunately able to accommodate us anyway. Half way through our meal another large group arrived but the table configuration meant both groups had to sit tight to their table as there was so little space between them.

With better management this could have been great, it looked like the meat options were well received but just a general lack of care let the...

This is a beautiful old pub, set in a beautiful little village. The food is clearly popular, as all the eating areas were full, although it didn't feel oppressively busy. More importantly, a nice range of beers were on offer. I had gammon steak with chips, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. As for breakfast, if I was so inclined, I could have written poetry for it, it was that delicious. The staff were wonderful, very friendly, and the level of service was excellent. The room I stayed in was very nice, but I would have preferred a room with a bathroom. This was a work trip, room based on budget, which is why I ended up having to share a bathroom with another room. Luckily it wasn't a problem, but just be advised when booking for yourself. However, I won't let that detract from a wonderful stay, one I would happily repeat. Well recommended.

Beautiful historic Inn. We were very lucky to find this gem, a stone throw from the International Bristol Ballooon Fiesta. We had the ensuite room. Large and well equipped and furnished. Our only quibble was the power shower was either very hot or cold. In the Angel' s defence we did mention this on our stay so we're not blaming the hosts who are a lovely team!
