What a beautiful pub, very atmospheric with thatched roof and a warm welcome as we arrived. As an Abbot Ale fan, I was even happier to find it on draft and in excellent condition.

The food was pleasant, with the main courses defeintely being better than the deserts. The mushroom fajita was nice and I'd have it again, although it wasn't that spicy and had a quite a bit of oil left in the dish.

The sticky toffee bread and butter pudding sounded amazing, and different - but didn't quite have the toffee flavour explosion.

So, love the pub and would happily eat there again.

and the following shows my bad taste in humour and isn't really related......

After God created 24 hours of alternating darkness and light, one of the angels asked him, "what are you going to do now?" God said,

"I think I'm going to call it a day."

How I Mark I may mark differently to some other reviewers, some might see this as harsh, others may see it as fair. But here's how I look at it:

5 star - WOW. I want to go back and look forward to doing so. They delivered everything expected and more. The 'more; is normally about the service or attitude of the staff. 4 star - GOOD. They delivered everything I wanted and a bit more. I recommend them and would go back. 3 star - OK. They delivered what I expected, I would go back if I needed to, although don't currently plan on doing so. 2 star - Not very good. I didn't get what I expected and the service wasn't good. I don't recommend this place. I might get dragged back here, although will always try to avoid it 1 star - This was rubbish. Don't go there, I certainly won't go there again. I didn't get what I wanted, the people were unhelpful and I didn't enjoy it...

VERY DOG FRIENDLY! Located on the edge of North Shoeburyness, an attractive collection of cottages has been restored as the Angel Inn. A traditional country pub, with flagstone floors, good furnishings and soft background music, which allows for easy conversation. A traditional country style bar with an open fire in the winter months, where you can enjoy a variety of real ales, Guinness, draught lagers or bottled beers. The restaurant, serves good food at reasonable prices. The Daily Specials Board shows food you can enjoy from the bar or restaurant The Angel is equipped with disabled facilities. This historic listed timber framed structure dates from circa 1650 and was formerly the North Shoebury Post Office and Blacksmiths Shop. The adjoining thatched Wheelwrights which eventually succumbed to the elements in the mid 1920′s is now the site of the new restaurant addition. Together with the neighbouring antique shop and cottages these buildings were, until recently, on the register of historic buildings at risk but have now been restored by the present owner and licensee and given a new role as the Angel Inn. This is a very popular pub and meeting place both winter and summer. During warm sunny days and evenings you can enjoy a drink and a chat outside at one of the tables or snuggle down in front of the fire with a warming meal during the coldest weather. Perfect for a quiet drink or a meal with friends and family. Parking available at rear of pub. Highly recommended hidden gem with a touch of class and history. Definitely worth...

Not a good experience last night at the Angel. The waitress knocked over my drink which soaked my shorts and the rest ran off the table onto my dogs head. I was given a reluctant apology and a roll of absorbent paper to clean it all up. I would have expected the waitress to clear the mess up! After drying my dog and standing in my pants in the toilet using the hot air blower to dry my shorts I went to the bar. This obviously spoiled my evening and I suggested to the bar staff that perhaps as a gesture of good will they should buy us a round of drinks (which would actually amounted to 2 pints of larger) and they got quite surly (the female staff not the young man who was very nice). I requested to speak to the manageress who was equally unhelpful and implied that I was lucky to get the replacement beer that they knocked over. So we left and when I got home I washed my shorts and my little dogs head. Now I will never recommend the Angel to anyone. Was this bad review and the loss of a customer not worth turning round for a couple of beers? These folk have no idea about customer care and perhaps should improve their poor attitude. The picture is my dog before he got larger...
